that was the implication, but you're right for calling me out on this, i don't want to put words in your mouth.
honestly, what you're saying makes sense. but i wouldn't say that we need more capitalism, as we've got spades and spades of that. i don't know where you've been in Africa but most everybody has a hustler mentality, this goes from the poor folks living in the slums all the way to the cronies screwing up the tax-payers by looting. if there's anything that Africa needs it is stable political systems & long term plans. the money is there. it's either not being used correctly or its being accumulated in a few hands.
as for the case of the displaced africans living in the americas and west indies, i'm afraid i don't know enough to comment. i don't know how true it is about only europeans and arabs owning stores in majority black areas. i'm inclined to believe you're correct, but to be honest i'm pulling all my information from listening to ice cube and watching old spike lee movies, both of which are hardly reputable sources. i mean surely in majority black areas in the south (new orleans, atlanta) and the north (chicago, detroit) most of the businesses are black owned?
well thank you for correcting yourself
there is very little capitalism going on in black communities, hussling is part of capitalism but that isnt really what im talking about, im referring to financial networks, like banks, credit cards and loans
that is why i used in the beggining of the thread the example of accepting and depositing a check, that simple transaction requires a vast financial network and a literate society, so i would use that as a metric, ask yourself this, if you give somebody a check how hard would it be to cash? in africa, in favelas of brazil, in an america hood etc
that would give an idea of the financial networks i that community
i agree that the money is there, africa for example has a huge informal sector, but because of the lack of literacy and lack of formal financial networks, these business are not registered which means they do not pay taxes to the government and they do not have access to loans to expand
so you see people hustling, what i see is lack of productivity because of illiteracy and lack of financial networks, me pointing this out is not because i hate black people or africans
we as black people have two choices we can wait until white people stop being racist or wait for the western world to collapse or create our own financial networks and eliminate illiteracy ourselves
im simply pushing for the last one
as far as blacks and business ownership in the us, its very bad, for the most part black people do not even own their own homes much less the business in their neighborhoods, look up some background on ferguson as a perfect example of black people being the majority and not owning anything and look up claude anderson on youtube if you want more info about that the low state of black ownership
