Man i never knew wtf was goin on with Aeon Flux, everybody was anorexic and ugly as fukk. I just know she would die in almost every episode.

I've had more life experiences than the average person, especially growing up. Believe me. And no not everybody watched DBZ, it'd be ignorant for you to suggest so.

Mid-20s, grew up mostly in NY. Again, it's important to not use your upbringing as a rule for everybody. I'm just questioning dudes saying every black person they knew was watching this shyt, as if it was the norm. I find that highly unbelievable; I'm not talking simply about DBZ but anime in general - particularly all the other shyt being mentioned in here.
@ the bolded That's really how it is for me. You could say characters like Goku and Naruto were our Superman and Batman. Anime, extreme sports, video games; those were things that were just common interests among kids growing up in the 2000's. You know any older black folks that like watching kung-fu movies? It's basically a continuation of that. A lot of Asian culture is influential in our community. Like look at The Boondocks, it's basically an Americanized, black anime

Man I forgot about this, I use to think it was so whack, but I use to just watch it for those freaky tongue kissing scene's and the nipple poking through the fit.

I can't believe you're trying to fight this. Clearly a bunch of black people grew up watching anime or threads like this wouldn't exist.

Because TV shows became shyt and anime was an untapped resource that had comedy action drama or whatever genre you prefer...all while becoming increasingly better and numerous while television became increasing flabby and sick.

I'm not contesting that, I'm contesting the notion that every black person they knew was watching this shyt too. You'll find discussions on the internet about black folk listening to death metal, it doesn't mean every black person they knew listened to it as well.

I ain't trying to shyt on y'all. Every dude has his thang, but the way some of y'all posting in here like every 'nikka' they grew up with was watching this shyt - nah. I don't believe that for a second. If you white or Asian living in the burbs, yeah I can understand that. But not if you black, least of all not if you grew up on Magnolia or Jordan Downs or some shyt like that.
