Anime studios pump out anime left and right while western studios died out.

I liked anime from the 80s and 90s as well as early 2000s but somewhere along the way it started to focus more on fan service and tropes and the art got samey.
Most anime that is popular in the west is geared toward teenage boys so it is understandable why it isn't for everyone.

I would love to see a resurgence of western animation but so many are influenced by the Japanese style and Cal Art style that I don't know if we'll ever get back to the variety we saw in the 90s

I'm NGL I miss when anime was really niche. It just had a different vibe to it like you were apart of a secret club. I'm glad it's popular now tho because it deserves it. Some of these animes are all time great like the GOAT Dragon Ball Z.

I think the darker tones and more consistent storytelling is what drew in not just black males, but anyone that found anime. It's was a total change of pace from American cartoons.

How can you see cowboy bebop, lupin the 3rd, detective Conan, Trigun, ghost in the shell, inuyasha, dbz, yuyu hakusho, bleach, one piece, etc all on the same channel on basic cable and not be even somewhat of an anime fan? Adult swim was the perfect introduction to anime in my opinion.

Everything that I've started after growing up have almost all started no later than 2010 tho. I can't really speak on the more recent ones

nikka dont compare ThunderGOATS to Anigay.
The Thundercats was animated in Japan & was written/voice acted in the States

It's one of the reasons it was so good & I watched it as a little kid in the 80's

Themes of overcoming big challenges through developing your skills and working together with others. These things give you agency and empowerment

They like our shyt too. They put our shyt on a lot of their shyt like it’s a spice.

That’s why it’s funny when racists try to gatekeep us out of shyt cuz it’s like “hold up is that jazz being used in the thing you’re trying to keep me out of? :russ:

“Wait a minute, “cowboy” and “bebop”. Two nikka things and my peoples music all up in it but I can’t like it?” :mjlol:

ive seen whites with confederate flag shyt on eating with their kids at the falafel place. guy that owns it is syrian i think... there is a hawaiian chain here now, and some native american restaurants. there are african/middle eastern as well as south asian markets

every culture has some good shyt to eat.. well maybe not inuits and nordic countries that eat weird rotten fish, but for the most part humans eat good :blessed:

sardinia is a weird one. they have the rarest pasta in the world, but they also eat rotten maggot cheese

:scust:

i dont see why OP should insinuate that black americans should feel weird about enjoying anime. the boondocks came out like 20 years ago. anime has been mainstream for decades

:flabbynsick:

we should be grateful that we know so much about the world. we should enjoy as much of it as we can... 500 years ago people thought there were monsters beyond the seas. although we still do have monsters beyond the seas, i guess.. theyre just called passport bros now

I respect it but I can’t get into it. First of all it looks like one person draws every anime in existence they all look the same :why:

And I was the only nikka in my hood that didn’t like DBC. I tried but I couldn’t fake it. And then when I found out it was dubbed and they weren’t even speaking English :mindblown:

Anime ain’t for me but I see the vision

This is my biggest gripe about it. I literally call it a genre of plagerism. Imagine of every single american cartoon looked like it was from the same artist that did disneys sleeping beauty. People would be getting sued left and right.

I mean I get a style or tradition but wtf you could put 100 anime’s in front of me and I guarantee I couldn’t tell the difference. And it’s been like that since like the 80s like what :mindblown:

A lot of black women are into Anime now too.
And I’m not even talking about the weird/bedwench types. I dated a lawyer who was into Anime more than me.
