The strangest thing is we got grown nikkaz still watching this shyt.

And I don't really get the whole "we grew up with it" arguement because there are things that I grew up with that I outgrew , like babygrows and breast milk.

Let me explain something.

In Japan manga and anime is watched by all age demographics. That's why it's categorized as Shonen ( boys to teen males ), Shoujo ( girls to teen girls ), Seinen ( Grown Men ), and Josei ( Grown Women ).

In America comics were originally read by everyone also. But in the 1950s a psychologist thought that Comic books were damaging the youth. So a lot of comics book got banned and the only comics that could be made were Superhero comics. That's why there is are many Superhero comics.

Banning comics in America almost destroyed the industry and it's still recovering today.

The stigma that comics, manga, and anime is for little kids is starting to go away because the newer generations ( Millenials and Generation Z ) have/are grown up with it.

Been watching it since the 80s like @west coast said

Really got into it the early 90s when sci fi channel first came on they had robot carnival
, lens man, vampire hunter d and dominion tank police

Then i started going to Japan town mall and getting videos

I watch about 10 hours per week

You know black hair is considered mysterious , powerful, and healthy in Japan,

White hair is considered dead

It's the opposite in western culture

The first people of Japan were black islanders

I hear that.

I'm in my 20's and I still watch cartoons myself; Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad etc. :yeshrug:

I know this comment is directed at me - don't use quotation marks if it isn't what I posted - I NEVER said that. My issue is with dudes saying every black person they knew growing up watched this shyt. That's all. I don't doubt that there was some folk watching this shyt; yet I consider anime an eccentric taste when it relates to my kinfolk and any grouping of this being a norm seems to be a stretch.

:leostare:

You sound white.:heh:
I don't who specifically said what otherwise I would quote people. I just know it was said, not by who so I kept it general. If anyone thought I was speaking about them, I assumed they would reply regardless. If you were saying no one watched it, then I was talking to people like you. I personally recognized that not everyone watched it and I chastised anime fans who acted like that was the case just as much as I did people who act like no one ever watched it in the hood. So it doesn't sound like I was talking to you specifically but other people. I just wasn't going to read through all the post to see who they were.

If it makes you feel better to think that,by all means but if that's all you want to focus on out of all that then :manny: Granted I didn't see Harlem nikkas wearing that, that was down south. Nothing I said can be refuted breh. I'm not making generalizations like other people have by saying EVERYONE watched it. I'm saying anyone saying nikkas didnt watch anime don't have enough nikkas cause everyone in the hood had some nikkas that fukked with anime.

If you disagree then :hubieb:Neither of us making money off this back and forth.

Myself. fukk 12(1)!
How old are you and where are you from? Everybody I know born in the 80's and 90's grew up with anime. I'm from North Memphis so I'm actually from a place where plenty of black folks live. You must be in your 40's or had a shytty childhood with no cable
It ain't even that; I'm in my late 30s, spent most of my childhood in the hood in St. Louis and I know a shyt ton of folks around my age that fukked with anime growing up (myself included).

Same here :wow: Saturday Anime was the shyt, and they should bring it back.

Those black islanders you're talking about, are the Ainu I believe
Come to think of it, Nicki Minaj kinda has a resemblance to their women :ohhh:
