A lot of artists are second generation, at least. Many come from musical families. Like Dilla and Madlib. Some of the most random “Lil” SoundCloud rappers give interviews where they’re like “yeah I’m related to so and so, they used to write songs for such and such”. Nardwuar’s king at finding those joints.
That’s not what the thread is about

Are y’all asking why there aren’t parent/child duos who both achieve massive amounts of success? :mjlol: because popularity isn’t hereditary and it’s almost impossible to become a major success in the first place, let alone twice in the same family. Shyt most entertainers try to dissuade their kids from pursing showbiz as a career because they’ve seen first-hand how much of a shyt show it can be.

Wow never knew this. I was a Digable Planets fan but even more of a Shabazz Palaces fan. I saw Ishmael post a pic of Lil Tracy on the cover of a magazine and was literally thinking that’s hella random. Figured he was featured in the mag too or something. I never gave Lil Tracy a chance. Will have to listen to a song now.

U right but that's a rare situation. Nona Gaye wasn't really a star. Bobby brown got a bunch of kids. Ginuwine. I could go on and on. It just doesn't make sense. Even in rap the 90s is supposed to be the golden era. Yet none of their kids got the star gene? Most are in their 40s and 50s and got older kids. Busta, Snoop, dre. Even Juvenile just said his son raps. I know kids wanna rebel but sometimes u can't fight genetics.

Drake comes to mind

So does Desiigner, Nas, and Prodigy (R.I.P.)

Cory Gunz is the closest thing to be being a respectable rapper who might have been as good if not better than his pops, Peter Gunz

It all kinda fell apart for him tho.....He was a version of Lil Wayne's A Milli, he was signed yo Young Money.......then he caught the gun charge and it was over.

Yup,

look at Christian Combs. Puff is pushing him as hard as possible and he's just too corny to really blow up even with the Case-Touch Me Tease me sample and a Chris Brown hook. You can be set up with a golden ticket like Christian Combs and still lose in the entertainment world. That's how hard it is to make it.

Because they grow up with money and aren't hungry enough
This. But also, why would any expect there to be 2nd generation greats in rap? There's nothing genetic about rapping/rhyming. It's not even like singing where you might inherit similar vocal cords or sports where you inherit height or other physical traits. There's literally no advantage that children of great rappers have over any other random kid out there. Their fathers/mothers were great because of a specific set of conditions (where they're from, era they grew up in, home environment, trauma, etc.) that helped make them great. If the kids don't have these exact same conditions, why would anyone think they'd be like their parent or any doper than the next kid?
