Why aren't there many NBA players that were from New York?

Uptown
French Lick was just slang for Mott Haven Homes in the South Bronx back in the day. Sort of like LeFrak being called Iraq and shyt.
There's a spray-painted mural of Larry up on Weeks Ave. & Burnside Ave. in the BX...shyt has doves around it & everything. Dominicans & Blacks up there knew about his hustle...forever a legend in the hood.

larry was a g no doubt, but he had to fall back when reggie lewis and lenny bias were dippin into his supply like that

it made him really contemplate his life, before that the game was all he knew

Yeah but the All Time NYC team is :ohlawd:

SF Larry Bird
PF Connie Hawkins
C Captain Lew Alcindor
SG Chris Mullin
PG Tiny Archibald

Bench: Bernard King, Bob Cousy, Jamal Mashburn, Kenny Anderson (for sentimental reasons), Rod Strickland, Scientific Mapp (illustrious career), Conrad McRae, Adrian Autry, Pee Wee Kirkland (legend in two games), Alimoe (RIP).

:birdman:

Where do you get off spouting such bs?

Being from NYC....I couldn't imagine creating a thread dedicated to a place I thought was wack, fell off, or been soft ever since someone came thru and crushed the buildings. Matter fact, I don't see me using any of my thought process on such a place. :ehh:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall seeing even these names:
Devin Ebanks
Speedy Claxton
Channing Frye
Sundiata Gaines
Danny Green ( And don't come at me with no LI bullshyt, any one who knows anything about the bball scene in NYC knows about North Babylon and just how many nikkas go out there to train)
Tobias Harris
AJ Price
Mark Jackson
Doron Lamb
Scott Machado
Kyle O'Quinn
Lamar Odom
John Salley
Hilton Armstrong
Andre Barrett
Gary Forbes(Grew up in Bklyn)
Anthony Mason(NYC HS bball)
Kenny Anderson
Wally Szczerbiak(Much more LI than anyone else on this list)
Johnson Brothers
Charles Jenkins

Let's look at the top 25 teams in the NCAA:
Durand Scott
Russ Smith
Kevin Ware
Shane Southwell
Kamari Murphy
James Southerland
Kevin Parrom
Tray Woodall
Melvin Johnson

NYC still does and will continue to produce good bball players but its ignorant to make a thread like this and not consider the deteriation of high school basketball in the city. PSAL is not what it used to be. Rice is gone. CTK not what it use to be. How can the city continue to compete with St. Anthony's, St. Benedict’s and St.Patricks only a bus and train ride away? South Kent sees a lot of our talent too. Its happening with some of our top female players as well. Too many kids having to got he prep/juco route. No one gets down in the parks anymore
you are expected to be "training" in a gym. All these "trainers" are not cheap.
Our academics suck. The schools with the "better" academics don't have the players nor the preferred coaching. Not to mention the politics involved smh. Every aau coach is a handler now. Let's not forget what the hype here can do to a kid(see Telfair, Stephenson).
If Lavin can continue to build up St. John's, I think it can help in nyc bball taking a turn for the better.

bynum claims philly as his closest city.

morris twins are from philly & jersey but theyre more synonymous with philly & played in the public league.

smh @ new york trying to claim everybody.

Because Nyc nikkas are all hype. Sebsastian Telefair's bum ass is still in the league due to nyc hype smh. These are the same nikkas that gassed that bum ass nikka James White up, talking about he was the best dunker in the world. Nyc nikkas are some lying motherfukkers

james white been an elite dunker since 12th grade ak.
