I've been meaning to make a thread in either the film room or the root that kinda addresses this. But I have noticed Black people who enjoy fiction usually gravitate to certain character archetypes compared to other races. (Still might make it)

Black people seem to gravitate towards strong characters who power their way through any obstacle. While white people seem to like more flawed characters who main obstacle is themselves.

i don't have proof to back this but a couple of years i read a article about how Akira Toriyama wanted Goku & Vegeta to draw parallels to the dynamic of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X
I think that was supposed to be Prof X and Magneto

American dubbed DBZ had the script edited heavily to make him essentially like a"superman" of justice. To sell to American audiences

Original Goku is a retard who likes to fight

I don't watch DBZ now... but when it came on the foreign stations back in the mid 90's the shyt was Crack and I was glued to the TV for hours... The over the top fights.... Explosions... Story... was all a breath of fresh air compared to the cartoons we had here in the US.....

That's why this black man loved DBZ.... :manny:

Not an avid fan of anime but I was into DBZ in my younger days.

I will say this. The subjugation of the Saiyan race to Frieza's really paralleled the dynamic we see with black and white folks. Frieza's race saw the Saiyan as a threat because of their inherent superior fighting skills. Because of this, they decided to wipe most of them out and take others as servants/slaves.

This was really cool to me cause it was something I could identify with.

Then they had that mfer hair turn yellow when powering up:hhh:

That was the end of that:mjlol:

His people feared the legendary super saiyan. King Vegeta was a puppet king. Had babies powerlevels gauged at birth to send them to specific planets (you can argue even killed if too strong)

The Bardock episode was deep. He was low class, coming back from missions beat up.

But he was getting stronger each time. Frieza specifically sent a ton of goons to wipe out 5 "low class" nikkas because of their potential. Toriyama probably doesn't care about blacks but you can align this with COINTEL pros statements of wanting to destroy a "black messiah".

"We did everything you asked, we're loyal to Frieza"

""Sorry our boss is a p*ssy and y'all are getting too strong"

Here's the sad shyt: Bardock goes to warn his people of the possible genocide of them. They became complacent under their own slavery and laughed at him. He goes on his own to try and stop Frieza but fails and the whole race is gone. :francis:

One low class saiyan with potential causes a p*ssy dictator to eradicate an entire race of people. You can draw the fukking parallels yourself

if they were really "low class monkeys" why was the strongest being in the universe so scared? Why did he do so much to subjugate them?

You can honestly relate that Frieza/Planet Vegeta shyt to colonization and Cointelpro. That's really the only part that has levels
Yeah frieza saga is the only thing relatable.

Everything else is just fighting to save the world(not that it's bad I'm a dbz fan myself)
