The traveling rules were 100x more strict pre 1980s. There was a clip on Reddit on a Jerry West dribble that was called a travel. The play was so inconsequential, people would be shocked a violation was called

The casuals that laugh at the way Cousy dribbled will turn a blind eye to players today taking a "gather step" or legally traveling every time they take a "hesi" dribble

Players haven't gotten more advanced. The rules just changed

I just want a middle ground on this

Because people be calling old players plumbers

But to be fair, thats in response to people calling current players soft and and saying they couldnt survive back in the day

That gather step is the biggest bullshyt I’ve ever heard of in sports.

Even more than that Tuck Rule. At least the NFL had the sense to get rid of it.

According to Lebron just drop current Giannis in that era and he would have 250. I'm sure it'll be a cake walk for him to drive to the hoop without traveling.
