I think we should back out of Syria except for covert action. We've just dropping Russian soldiers at this point. Russia fell for the bait.
Fell for the bait? They have a base there and are working to protect a client state they've had as an ally for 50 years. They were also invited by the UN recognized government in Damascus.
Plus they turned the tide of the war. Assad was on his heels.
Covert action to support the losing side at this point by blindly following QAtari and Saudi policy is a road to nowhere.
Country side insurgency isn't going to produce anything at this point.
