Why would you expect him to be?

I don't "expect" him to be anything. The question is why do people actively fight against the idea.

Link is a different person each time, he's gone through plenty of artistic changes and the story leaves room for him to be black/Latin/female/ect. Yet people (even black people in this thread) seem to think its best he's always a white person.

Why?

Link pretty much always looks the same and calling that tanned pirate black in Wind Walker is laughable. I guess Link's grandmother was black in that game too?

Link has gone through plenty changes. Different eye/hair color and its speculated that link may be female in the next game. Why is darker skin so unreasonable? Why are you against it?

And the tanned character had to loose her tan in order to be a princess. So is pristine milky white skin the only accepted skin tone for royalty in hyrule?

That's fukked up no matter what excuse you make. I understand when these characters were first conceived diversity wasn't a big thing on people's minds, but in 2014 the audience is very diverse, young black and brown kids want to grow up and make games, more girls are playing games, its time for Nintendo to step out from the 80's and quit pretending black people don't exist. For the life of me I can't understand how black people would argue against more diversity in the game they are playing.

What's wrong with you dudes:what:

Link is always "Hylian" aka an "elf"

there's something to be said about Nintendo and how they handle race. but all this singling out of Link and the Zelda series is just weird

So elves can only have white skin?

And the reason I singled out Zelda is because I read that article and it really got me thinking. Although the situation about the tan girl isn't as bad as the article made it out to be, it's still not a good look and it speaks to Nintendo's seemingly purposeful disclusion of any color in their games.

Japan is like 95+ percent Japanese. Why would you expect them to care about diversity when their population isn't diverse?

They don't even have Japanese people in their games.:stopitslime:

This excuse does not work.

People of all races/nationalities are buying, developing, and playing their games. If they were only for sale in Japan you'd have a point and I wouldn't care.

Japanese people always fukk up black people. Like they always have blonde or silver hair and are dressed flamboyant with a bad "hood" accent.

It's sad when Balrog is the most accurate black character created by the Japanese in video games.

'Hylians' are a made-up race/ethnic-group. how much diversity do you expect within that?

I mean we're talking about someone going from tan to not-tan. that really has nothing to do with 'race'. the highborn princess stays in her castle, and isn't exposed to much sunlight. the pirate-girl is on the open sea all day. sure her instantly going from 'tan' to 'pale' is kind of weird by itself, but her hair and clothing also changed as she was magically transformed

Actually they do when the characters are designed to look realistic and not in Anime style. You're basing race off hair and eye color of cartoons. What race are the pink and blue haired Anime characters with the purple eyes btw ?

I don't expect ching-chongs to put a black man as non stereotypical protagonist, and if so very rarely. They really think what they see on TV is the only way to represent black people.

In a mistical land where elves and faries live, I'd expect there to be more than one skin tone on humanoid creatures.

Not an excuse in my opinion. The fact that the princesses skin had to get lighter with the rest of her "transformation" doesn't sit well with me. Even going with the "just a tan" story it still shows that she had to totally changed herself in order to be princess. It's just not a good message in my opinion.

Have not said anything about race. Only talking about skin color. If anime characters can have pink hair and purple eyes, it's not unreasonable to expect to see SOME with brown skin.

Why would you expect him to be?
Because maybe he is waking up and realizing that every character whether fictional or real, can be black
Why would I expect him to be? What would you expect him to be?
Why the fukk are most characters WHITE. Its a brainwashing bruh
I didn't come to that conclusion as soon as this thread was made, just your reply had me like :ohhh:
You been conditioned to expect everything to be white. From Jesus to Link of Hyrule

You don't find anything odd about that bruh :mjlol: But let a fictional character be black and the outrage is REAL
But ask why Jesus looks like a hippie and its "Why does it matter :to:"

You should watch Hidden Colors bruh, they'll break down what THEY been doing to your psyche :snoop:

Then go watch The Education of Sonny Carson. Trill negro shyt most of you nikkaz ain't neva heard of

Then when you come back, George Jefferson stroll on deez fools :stylin:

it's one particular (fictional) race/ethnic group of "humanoid creatures"

The fact that the princesses skin had to get lighter with the rest of her "transformation" doesn't sit well with me.
why is that?
