it's fukked up when you realize your parents aren't demi-gods but just regular flawed human beings. some are cool, some are lame, some are responsible, some aren't, and then some are in between. think about some of your homies. some of them are probably parents. their kids will grow up, get to your age and then ask themselves the same questions about why their pops are this way or that way. but to you the answers will be clear. it's because your homies are who they are. your dad has some homies who see it clear as day too. known him since he was your age. your dad just happens to be a semi-bum (no disrespect). it is what it is...

My father is a stranger to me. His disappearances impacted my brother more than it did me. I was an infant. I met my stepfather when I was 9 months.

I try to contact that man at 24 years old and got a lukewarm reception. He adds me on Facebook and sends me bible verses like that is supposed to connect with me on any level. An agnostic, really. You might be able to fool my mother with that but not me.

He embarrasses me and doesn't realize it. I don't know him and I don't owe him shyt.

this hit home. I felt so guilty that I was almost relieved when my Mom died. It was literally a weight off of my shoulders after all she put us through.

OP, the last part is the truth. Don't let guilt get to you, and do you. We've all been dealt different cards, and all you can do is play with the hand you're given. Cliche as fukk, but it's up to you to prosper.
