It's difficult to have the hero lose and keep the viewers coming back, it takes dynamic characters and great writers...

Yeah I can see the ultimate cut being too long. But uh the director's cut is just over 3 hours I recommend that to to uninitiated.

I mean honestly most of these writers out here don't have the balls to write a piece of mainstream media work where the villain outright wins. not like some moral victory or a half win but a full blown they accomplished their plan and lived happily ever after while the protagonist or heroes lost.

honestly i wanna see this taboo broken but then it'll probably become as cliche as the bittersweet ending where the protagonist dies.

i know a story where the villain outright wins will piss off the audience but this needs to start happening. especially in this new era of villain protagonist.

I agree with OP, and it's true that some movies have the villain winning...maybe what I'd REALLY want to see is one of those apocalypse/zombie flicks where they think they have a solution but then they fukk up and humanity basically loses...you'd see the last guy/girl get killed, fade to black, THE END.

Where evil is seen as the new good because of the values of demonic filth, money, greed, etc. I dont think you really want that.
