It's not a fact, it's an opinion.
And also, as breh said above, people need to learn to explain why something is trash.

Disagreeing isn't new thing, but not being able to call something trash is. Think about Nastradamus. We flat out said it was trash...there's a couple of joints on it, but it was trash. Now it seems to be "I wouldn't say it's trash, he's experimenting."

Now that I think of it, you can only say that about certain artists. Certain artists you can call something trash -- Em, Wu, Nas, a handful others, and anyone currently in the spotlight, you can't.

I don't think this is entirely true. Sure, people will heap praise on popular/well-received shyt, but other people will shyt on that same stuff. Look at that new Cole for instance. Some people love it, while others think it's trashola. Even someone like Kendrick, who is looked at as the best rapper right now, is called trash. If you searched "Kendrick trash" or "Kendrick's Damn is trash" on Twitter right now, I guarantee you'd get a lot of results.

And like everyone else said, if you're gonna call something trash, you gotta come with some reasons as to why you think its trash. It just comes off as glib and lazy if you don't. Also, people on the internet get heated with their opinions. That's just how it is. If someone who is a huge Kendrick fan crosses paths with someone who thinks Kendrick is overrated, chances are those two peeps are gonna butt heads. This is what the internet is all about. So people can argue their opinions.

This is the problem when we don't have internet, people just say what they thought and use it as a representation for what the whole world was saying. "We, the billions of people in the 90s still would say" .

Both Nastradamus singles were pretty high on the rap charts and were the worst songs on the album, there was obviously people that would've said no this shyt is tight. Just like Common Sense and Biggie Smalls said hiphop was dead and ass in 94. Jay said NY was soft in 98. Just read some old reviews of e.g. IWW there were reviewers calling it trash or selling out. Do you think Nas stans were saying, "Hey you are entitled to your opinion". They would attack dudes twitters, if twitter was there.


I don't know what people in the 90s said, it's pretty hard to see what everyone was saying. Say for example when Jeezy came out, half Allhiphop (east coast old heads) were saying that he was trash, the other half of the board said he was nice. What about when Juvenile and Master P blew up? Why would it be any difference, some obviously said that they were trash and other said that they were fire. It's like that with everything that's significantly different from the norm.

i’ve just never seen an argue spark from someone saying “i love this” and someone come in and say “how can you love that shyt?”

Also, popular opinion is called exactly that for a reason. People are generally gonna go with the consensus. But at the same time, when something becomes wildly popular, there's almost always a backlash of some sort.

What I will say about today is however that it seems as if a lot more people listen to shyt they don't like because it's a lot more accessible and therefore have more negative opinions on music. Or it's just that it's more pronounced due to social media. People say everything is trash and overrated and call everything classic. In one day you can see Kendrick is trash, Kendrick is overrated, Kendrick is top 5 DOA, Kendrick has 4 classics.

Basically I think it's a broad mix of many factors that has created this climate, social media, accessibility to music, diversity in styles of rap, greater dispersion in the age, minds etc of hiphop fans and rappers alike and much more. Personally I'm good at accepting that I don't understand or fukk with certain things due to many reasons, I just stay away, like say Lil Yachty or Metallica. I have no opinion on those two.

Because saying its trash is trying to push a narrative as opppsed to saying "I don't like it". On the Internet, it's like people have difficulty with just saying "I don't like it". Saying its trash or garbage is extra. Its begging to get a response, which is why you have people (who would probably agree they don't like it) "flying in capes flapping". Same goes for someone saying its "classic". Statements like "its trash" normally come from people who don't like the artist anyway. Then there's the fact that they want to be the first to say it was trash especially if it was a project that was already hyped or anticipated. there is no difference in calling something trash and saying “i dont like it” obviously if you call something trash you dont like it. one just sounds harsher. there is no difference. sounds to me people are p*ssy and when you use strong words they blindly get defensive.
