I've been baffled by the Cormega worship ever since I joined sohh back in like '03 and started arguing with dudes with comic book avi's.. I've come to the point where I gotta believe people are being ironic or just flat out trolling..

Dude was easily the worst rapper in The Firm when he got the boot... Then he reinvented himself as a philosophical street poet who's oratorical skill never matched the talent of his pen.. I guess people love his content so much that they are willing to overlook that he can't rap his way out of a wet paper bag or stay on beat or in pocket to save his life..

Now we are supposed to place him in the pantheon of the greatest that have EVER picked up a mic in the 40 year history of the culture?

Top 5 DOA huh?

That Journey joint on B&R was crazy, probably what inspired the last full album with Large Pro.

i like mega and all, but he might not crack my top 100.......thats not a bad thing.

i didnt hear this new album thats being raved about on the net, but im not buying into the hype either.

i have his 1st 2 joints. theyre far from classics, but i cant argue against a 4/5 rating for them both.

He's one of the best all-time, but once rap became overally commercialized, you won't be ranked in the majority's eyes as a GOAT contender if you never had mainstream success

the legends like Rakim, Kane, G Rap etc...lucked out in a way because they came at the beginning, so their status was cemented before people even cared about plaques and stuff, but if they came out now, as legendary as they are, they would be considered "Dope underground rappers" instead of GOAT rappers because they lacked the major mainstream success.

i see what youre getting at but kane & rakim had mainstream success. especially kane.

altho, i think rakim's legacy would be similar to that of say a camron or lox. and i think kane would have a higher standing than rakim by today's corporate standards.

i agree with the kool g. rap thing. but lets be real, cormega is no kool g r rap. and theres a helluva alot holding mega back from top 5 than just mainstream success.

he puts to many syllables in his line it's like his lines be retardedly long and not in a good way imo
and u would think he was twista the way he has to many syllables in his line but at least with twista he raps fast and raps to fast bpms.

this nikka raps to slow ass beats have u ever heard mega rap fast ?

i bet the nikka never heard of a bpm or a bar measure

i remember he tried his hand at double-time rap on the "deep blue sea" soundtrack.

they say he hates this song and refuses to perform it when requested.

I personally love Mega's style.
His voice just makes you mellow out.
His flow is kinda laidback but i can understand if you dont like it if you more into aggresive styles.
He's 1 of my favorite rappers now.
My all time favorite is Common though.

Absolutely adore Mega. I feel a kindred spirit. Sit us in a room and we'll stumble out drunk arguing about an arbitrary Rap record.

I'm confident in Mega's ability to rise up the ranks. If he keeps dropping consistent quality level albums he could easily move forward. The thing that holds him back is lack of material, because what he has delivered is very good.

You should check the album out. It's short so it isn't gonna take you much time. And it's different from any of his past releases. I don't know what you mean by hype though, Mega doesn't have no media machine behind him or none of that, the buzz for the album is all grassroots from the fans due to the quality of the album, that's substance not hype. Ultimately if you hear it you can judge if you like it or not for yourself. As a Hip Hop head you will probably enjoy it, but different people have different tastes, but you won't know unless you listen.

by hype, i meant internet hype.

im not trying to say he has a machine behind him or anything. never that.

im just cautious of albums that only buzz on the net.

I'm not sure was just a buzz on the net. Think several artists such as Chuck D, Saigon, J Love, AZ have said it's possibly his best work and a great album. Not to mention Combat Jack, Ali Muhammad have praised it highly. So I think it's more peers and Hip Hop heads rather than just an internet buzz based off internet nerd. Nowadays nearly everyone has the internet anyway, both our bases are probably the streets but we both on here, am sure there's numerous others like that. Even if you looked at the actual album discussion thread, it's a lot of credible respectable posters giving the album mad props, even most of the doubters have said positive things. That tells it's own story, it's almost an undeniable quality piece of work. But you will see your opinion for yourself when you get around to checking it out.
