their internal preorder and opinion tracking must have been terrifying, so for now they had to take it all off the table. over time they may figure out which parts are tolerable and then introduce them into a less offensive configuration - one that allows people to do the traditional disc route, or the digital download route with sharing and whatnot. there is no reason why it is impossible to let people do both on one console. the only reason it isnt happening now is because there isnt enough time to work out a new way before launch. even the cloud computing stuff is totally doable without draconianism.

Exactly, this is moving too fast for huge changes in that way.

Mattrick and the people in charge of the xbox brand had a WHOLE lot of explaining to do as to why their strategy did not work on some sort of conference call. Mattrick's job SHOULD be in jeopardy if pre-orders don't sell out the end of this weekend.

This doesn't make sense. If you wanna share games or receive a game, then you opt in. Is that too hard?

If person B doesn't have to be connected to the Internet then how would the machine know its the same copy that person A was using?

If person B's gamertag is not opted in to the online DRM then you cannot send games to them, period, until they opt in.

Are you talking about games that were purchased digitally?

I thought you were referring to the system MS talked about where you purchased a disc but then installed it to become a digital copy on your machine and then you could share that. You cant have a sharing system under the second scenario and give people the option to opt out of online checks.

Yes you can, because if you opt out of the check, then the disc needs to be in the tray to do so

Like i said.

Lets say i buy the game and i opt into 24 hour checks after i install the game to my hdd. I then go to your house and give you that disc. You dont have your console hooked up to the internet. I then go back home and play the copy i have installed to my console. You play the game with the disc in the system. How would the machine know you shouldnt be able to play that game?

wireless radio frequencies brought to you by project loon would always call to xbox without you knowing thus letting the xbox know that youre stealing.

IT'S CALLED THE "FIRST TIME ANAL" METHOD

GIVE THEM THE WHOLE THANG UP FRONT NO LUBE. THEY CRY AND MOAN.

THEN YOU PULL OUT AND LUBE IT UP AND GIVE HIM JUST THE TIP UNTIL THEY CALM DOWN. THEN YOU KISS EM A LIL UNTIL THEY RELAX AND THEY START MOANING. THEN YOU GIVE THEM A BIT MORE UNTIL THEY CALL YOU DADDY AND BEG FOR MORE.

With that said...people fukk wit steam now...so it's not even a completely new idea...if they wasnt so fukkin greedy and restrictive it could've worked...all they had to do was change a few of their policies...steam is nowhere near as restrictive...

Yeah you're right about that. If they would have changed it to a 30 day offline policy and touted it as a steam-like service it could have caught on. It wouldn't have been easy but it wouldn't have the backlash it has now.

I see exactly what you speak of. There doesnt appear to be any way around that but to require the online check for everybody. Thanks for your patience
