Why Did 80's Cartoons Age So Badly?

To answer the question directly:

Cartoons back in the 80s were merely 30 min toy commercials with great voice acting. That's sole reason why the cartoons back then like Transformers and GI Joe and others never had a over lasting story line and most episodes were self contained stories. There wasnt a thing called episode arc or continuity. It was just this: look we got the new Rodimus Prime toy, make sure he is featured in this episode fighting our new Galvatron toy. K? Thanks!


And with that said, since you think they suck, how come these properties STILL make a ton of money?!? Transformers along with GI Joe wi turn 30 next year. 30 years of them. Eat a dikk if you don't like 80s cartoons

That's the point with ALL cartoons and anime shows. Past and present. Toy/Merch sales. The quality of the shows is/was secondary. I'm surprised not a lot of people are picking up on this.

They repeated a lot of the same animations... shyt was crazy.

Still love it though.

Older cartoons used the same background storyboards a lot too but MOTU was bad with it. Looney Tunes did it well where it wasn't ridiculous but old Hanna Barbera joints had a lot of struggle animation too.

it has to do with how they churned those out back in the day. they weren't gonna hand animate every cell, so they reused stuff, and/or would do that shyt where they would just kinda move big pieces around. I used to hate when you could tell what rock was gonna fall (or whatever) cause it was a slightly different color

The Nintendo cartoons did this religiously lol

watching old episodes of TMNT, shyt is fukking horrible likewise transformers, G.I Joe, captain planet, he-man, voltron, jem & the holograms, thundercats, etc.

90's cartoons aged like fine wine. but all 80's cartoons seem so in comparison. nostalgia can't even save it

So many things are taking trend from the 80s today. Look at Stranger Things, shyt is a huge hit.
