I worked with a kid that fukking loved jigga. Literally played Jay Z all day, every day at work. Told me Jay z was the greatest rapper of all time. Then he told me he never heard anything before the black album. :mindblown::wtf::snoop:

That whisper flow was awful on Jay. He's always biting flows. He copies what he thinks is hot. When he was biting biggie no one could fukk with him. Dude totally fell off after Volume 3. When I wanna listen to Jay it's volume 1 every time. One of my most listened to albums

He didn't get more popular. His popularity was actually declining. After "Ether", Jay started restructuring his sound and image. "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" and "Excuse Me Miss" definitely weren't the kind of lead off singles fans were used to for a Jay Z album especially for an artist as misogynist as Jay. It was open season on Jay Z. He was no longer invulnerable or invincible. Critics and fans were more critical. He was even sounding defeated. Both BP2 and TBA spend a lot of time telling you why he should be #1 instead of allowing the music to make that case for him.

that's right except he did get more popular but not because of his music but because of his relation with beyoncé. She made him go to a rap superstar to a pop superstar. After that he was a black icon and not only a rapper even if musically, he was declining more and more. But at this point that didn't matter. He reached eminem status where u can sell garbage music and still sells tons of records. Not a coincidence recovery and bp 3 broke down records in term of sales but were both artists less appreciate efforts

shyt was so smooth and crisp on this album

then less than a year later it was:dahell::scusthov:

homie rapping all fast and sloppy
look at the song cry flow compared to the bonnie and clyde flow
takeover flow compared to the blueprint 2 flow
its like hes trying to rap fast and slow at the same time

and he never went back to that blueprint flow again
why ruin a good thing:mindblown:

wont even get into the stupid "yuppp" and yess adlibs he started doing on this album too:aicmon:
