In comparison to boogie down production I’m talking about, before the old heads get upset...

Boogie down production had 4 straight gold albums (from 87-92)

then krs broke off and made 4 albums, only 1 went gold (from 93-2001) ..I won’t count whatever he released from ‘02 on because nobody has heard any of that shyt

Did he have a real fanbase? Why did the BDP fans not cross over and support his albums? Were BDP industry plants?

In hindsight, Was his solo career a disappointment? I’m sure the labels were thinking he’d have the same success when he was technically part of a group

let’s talk about it
krs one has his own fanbase.he was never suppose to be a crossover mc. his career was a success because he made stellar albums for true hi hop heads.

No one cared about BDP for the most part, who got any shine off their projects besides KRS? It's just that BDP was his heyday and then his solo career he was on the downside of his career.

this is the correct answer. I would like to say though, when Ghetto Music came out, we were super hyped for that release and we just didnt like it like that. it just went so far from the sound that we were used to. At the time it was almost a forced listen just because we were such big BDP fans. I recently had the time to go back and listen to it and I have to say it was much better than given credit for due to how it was initially received. I wont say classic but its special in its own right. If they were in today's era of releasing albums, it probably wouldve been seen more as a concept or formulaic piece.

Return of the Boombap, KRS-One and I Got Next are classics.

Also, KRS definitely dropped some great albums after 2002. He did Hiphop Lives with Marley Marl and Meta-Historical with True Master.

Will Smith? Dude is more known for being a B-list actor/family man than a rapper. And when he considered himself to be a rap artist back in the 80's, nobody took his corny ass seriously.

Whether he was corny or not, he still had an enduring career throughout the 90’s. Hell, overall, both him and Ice Cube are quite possibly the only 80’s rappers who have garnered a successful career at this level.

Hell most people in the younger generation only associate Ice Cube with funny ass family movies, Barbershop 3, and Friday, they don’t even know much about his rap career outside NWA or that he was even a rapper :pachaha:
