He played the wrong chords/riff at the ending..

If it were an arranged piece then he knows what sounds off...or it were something they practiced and jammed and had planned..I don't think that was an improv....

Solos are usually improv though..but perhaps Miles and them worked out the ending beforehand and herbie got it wrong

No. When you play music you develop an ear for it. Miles knew what Herbie was supposed to play and he didn't play it.
Sidenote I remember I was busking and was jamming "Need you Tonight-INXS"..

It's in B ...and some oldhead sax player walked by and asked me the key....I was nervous and busy tryna play and I said something like "B sharp "....

Oldhead proceeded to clown me then school me. Breh was "you playing that shyt just to look cool youngn :what:"

I know it goes from B to C breh caught me off guard:wow:

He got mad at him here too btw.

Herbie was the only member of the band that was playing structural chords and sometimes he cut Miles' solo's off too quick. He used to get flustered at Herbie alot in this period, but he knew Herbie was a perfectionist who was trying to be innovative and not vindictive. He liked the entire Quintet at the time, which was rare because he really didn't like alot of people, and they were all way younger than him. Tony Williams, his drummer was 17 when he joined the band, Miles was in his late 30s. Most of the band is still with us, sadly the youngest member Tony Williams passed about 20 years ago.

He had a love/hate relationship with John Coltrane and really grew to hate Charlie Parker. Dude was a trip.

Extinct
I howled when I read about him pissed cuz Coltrane ate all his mama's chicken and was greedy with the heroin. He said Coltrane was greedy in general. Imagine if social media existed back then.

  • Charlie Parker would be the prince of World Star fukkery
  • Miles Davis would be tweeting about how fukked up the Jazz game is and boppers would be calling him a "old hating ass jive sucker"
  • Herbie Hancock would be putting out unreleased shyt because "Herbie"
  • Coli brehs would be calling Dave Brubeck a cac
  • Coli brehs would be calling Nat King Cole a c00n
  • Coli brehs would be putting Thelonious Monk in PAWGset
:wow:The possibilities.
