The whole team choked, they blew like a 20 point lead. Nick's free throws were to just seal the game. Ended up losing in OT
Yeah they led by 20 in game 1 and Anderson blew 4 free throws, and then Hakeem tipped in a miss at the buzzer in overtime after Kenny hit a 3 to send it there. They were led by a 3rd and 4th year player. They weren't ready to handle a loss like that against the defending champs.

Young team that didn't take the finals serious, blew the first game in such a way that a key player's career was never the same because he became fukked mentally.
They took it seriously, they were just inferior to Clutch City.

OP, this is why you shouldn't listen to most fans. I favored Houston going into this series, only idiots thought the Magic would win. Never underestimate the heart of a champ.

In both the 30 for 30 and the oral history Grantland did, they talk about acting like the ECF was the finals and how Horace was warning them the shyt was far from over. Nick Anderson bought a Ferrari or some shyt, Shaq, D Scott and Brian Shaw recorded a song about winning the championship and they were kicking it.

In the 30 for 30, they talked about thinking the win was a lock, they beat MJ, won in the ECF and had swept the Rockets in the regular season.

Just watched that Orlando Magic documentary.

I actually blame the media and the fickle fans in Orlando for that him leaving.

Shaq wanted to stay, the media out there took polls about whether Shaq was worth the money. 85% of fans there said he wasn't worth the same contract Alonzo Mourning had. I don't blame him for bouncing after that. It obviously played a major factor if he's remembered it all these years. Same paper then later on in the documentary said he had the nerve to leave and was selfish. Well, maybe if you don't make bullshyt polls and editorials that antagonize the athletes the outcome would've been different.

Those same fans also gave Hardaway no appreciation too after all the work he put in.

I see a lot of similarities with this KD situation too.

Didn't Shaq average 28/12 on the series though? My memory of games 2-4 are fuzzy, but I'd imagine that the issue lied elsewhere.

Don't matter.Shaq got ate.

Yah, dude is right... even Shaq admitted that he was showing Dream too much respect. Said it was the one player whose head he couldn't get in. Would be telling Shaq good job when he scored, but that he should've spun a different way. :dead:

The Passage of Time
It was just a young team who had all the physical talent, but not the mental strength. People blow this shyt way out of proportion and never put it in historical context because the Magic got there ahead of schedule. This shyt was par for the course "Growing Pains" the Houston led by Ralph Sampson and Hakeem, Dallas led by Mark Aguirre and Rolando Blackmon, Chicago led by MJ and Pippen, Portland led by Drexler, Buck Williams and Terry Porter, The Seattle Sonics Shawn Kemp, Gary Payton. They did not have the mental toughness to compete. It's the same reason the Cavs got blasted by the Spurs and the Thunder got blasted by the Heat, and the Heat blasted by the Mavs. Physically talented but mentally weak.
