I think the start of the end was the beef with Game. Game to 50 was like 50 to Ja. Game presented himself as a hardcore gangsta who never smiled, whilst 50 was putting out all those songs with RnB hooks. So I think that was the start of the end of 50 being taken seriously on his 'Back Down' style. The other aspect I think was just 50's style. He was never much of a lyricist, his talents were as a song writer - making a catchy hook etc. It was more pop-rap than hip hop. When you've got someone like Dre on the team closely watching your song selection, giving you beats (Dre and Em exec produced his first two albums), it's very different when you start trying to take care of it all yourself - and he started falling off album 3. Album 2 wasn't as hot as the first one, but he still had buzz going. The problem was as everyone else said, oversaturation. 50 thought if he put out music all day everyday, people would come to expect high quality from him, when really he just got played out. A lot of it just became indistinguishable from other music, and when you've sold 15-20 million albums, you assume you know what you're doing and don't need to listen to other people as much, and get surrounded by yes men around for the success rather than honest and critical ears.
