I wrote a whole essay sent individually to all their mods and they didn't respond for shyt and act like nothing came their way

Lazy Editors who mass-reject annotations for the sake of “Activity” but don’t contribute toward annotations for them to be accepted is the reason why people don’t spend their time contributing to rapgenius just to have their annotation efforts ultimately deleted over a technicality. The talent pool of contributors have gone to shyt over the years and the bar is steadily lowering for editors' standards. Rapgenius often have my contributions rejected/removed by some ill-informed editor who does not understand the culture and its possibilities. My words are chopped up/re-edited to formulate another baseless narrative by a stan from a rival fanbase trying propagate revisionist hip hop history and/or disputed/nitpicked with irrelevant commentary from the ignorant parts of the wave-riding internet peanut gallery.

Knowledge is compromised over territorial IQ gains because contributors often dispute, squabble, deflect, and fight over trivial fixed-mindset, zero-sum stances. This platform has hit a plateau and is declining because clout chasers race to become the first contributors so they can reject other incoming additions to annotations that does not fit their mental image narratives instead of being open minded and candid to the possibilities – people play too many games and this site has too many abusable red-tape lack of functionality for any real contributions to be seen before they are ultimately rejected over a technicality.

The site’s GUI and functionality for contributions has not changed in years and people still abuse the same functions giving wrong/incomplete Q&A’s in the song’s bio. Don’t bother wasting your time contributing to new songs because the bottom feeders are aggressive will pull you down to their level for the sake of claiming annotation territory farming trivial IQ gains instead of providing the ultimate complete correct information to share. If any of this applies to you, you are part of the problem and not the solution but learn to correct yourself and get out of my way.

Rapgenius need to look at how reddit upvoted messages is ran for allowing the best annotations to bubble to the top via multiple contributors instead of a first-annotate-first-IQ-credit policy. The current system is too zero-sum.

High quality post, you outlined why I stopped bothering to contribute.

white people

I mean...this, but perhaps in a slightly different way from my perspective. Right now sites and apps are obsessed with valuation and maximizing profits/views/downloads/etc in order to get there. Genius raised a lot of money but from what I can tell - and I may be wrong - hasn't panned out the way they thought it would. And now that it's clear this will likely just remain a modest success or a financial failure...the owners are suddenly no longer passionate about making it work the best it can. Funny how that works. It's like typical white corporate shyt. You push push push to get that valuation money, maximize everything, and if you don't reach that level you wash your hands, take your golden parachute and leave everyone else fukked.

These dudes were vultures from the start, they never gave a fukk about rap music and they bet that explaining Camron lyrics to white suburbanites who recently moved to Brooklyn was gonna be a springboard to billions of dollars. I too remember that Combat Jack interview. How dismissive they were about hip hop, how they were talking about expanding to various topics (law, literature, etc). Combat exposed them so effortlessly too, basically just let them talk themselves into a ditch.

RIP Combat...

Rap genius was never really about RAP yah know ?
Rap was/is just the trojan horse, that was the whole point.

That's part of the reason I never fukked with "Rap Genius" in the first place.

once they started getting ad money, they went to focus more on videos and interviews rather than the lyrics and forums.
they still do focus on lyrics but only the high profile songs.
the forums are trash with anxiety ridden teenage euro and other non-black kids
these are also the people who have "mod" rights over annotating.
they are the type who thought zaywop was talking about "food stamps" when he says "meal ticket ticket, meal ticket ticket" on Free Lunch.
because they have absolutely no clue what free lunch is, despite it being a clear hint in the song title lol
straight up appropriation if you ask me
Rob Markman is cool tho

tldr: blame eminem :yeshrug:
