Apparently it turned out to be a sample clearance issue. They couldn’t clear the Aretha Franklin sample in time for the album so they redid the hook and by the time the song was released as a single, they changed it back to the original version.

Jazze Pha’s quote:
“[I tried to sample] Aretha Franklin’s ‘Day Dreaming.’ I had originally done the record singing that same melody. They were like, ‘We couldn’t use it because we couldn’t get it cleared in time.’ So I changed the melody and I made my own melody out of it, and people really gravitated toward the melody I changed it to. Then when the video came out, they changed it back. That was an executive decision which I thought we didn’t really need. I didn’t think we needed the sampled version because our fans didn’t really know that record anyway, so it’s not like there’s no real nostalgia for them with the record.

I had always thought he recorded the radio single separately to give it a slightly different feel, but this makes sense. Song takes me back LOL, definitely got some burn along with "Freak Though".

One thing I always wondered with T.I. early in his career: how in the world did he get the feature on 2pac's "Better Dayz"? I imagine Jazze Pha was the hook up but I can't imagine he had that much pull to get a relative unknown on there considering Jazze Pha himself was pretty young in his career too.
