Its because they had higher testosterone, and most likely estrogen levels, then we do now. I have a theory that its because they are more nutrient dense foods then we do now and stood on their feet more which means more of these nutrient dense foods being in the blood are able to do their thing to the ovaries and testicle. That means more hormones and reaching maturity at a young age compared to today.

To me its the opposite now, the clothes and make up make these kids look older, mainly the girls. Once the make up is gone and hairmis just regular, you can tell these girls are young, at least most of them. The guys look younger then back in the day. The bodies on some of the chicks is bigger now but it seems like black women have gotten bigger(not necessarily fat) because I was watching soul train and nobody looked as thick as the women do now.
What's funny is white women were a little thicker back then compared to the 80's and 90's, they are just recently getting a little thicker now. Black women are getting huge compared to then, even the early 2000's. I think eating too much processed carbs, especially sugar, and a lot of meat is doing it. It seems like most black chicks are big. Even Latin women are starting to look like this. Its good when they're young but that shyt turns into being fat once they hit over 30. Its funny because you can still see them trying dress like their younger days when it was real thickness and not cellulite hiding under tight clothes or sun dress.
