it was so ahead of it's time, why was it a commercial failure? do you guys remember the reasons
thank you for the answerSega's 7 years of transgressions preceding it basically doomed the whole console. It sold historically well out the gate but they burned so many bridges with their mishandling of the Saturn that when the PS2 came around, they didn't have the necessary support from third-party developers and retailers to compete. And since Sega was deep in the red (they needed a stimmy from their former president purely out of the goodness of his heart to keep from going bankrupt), it just wasn't feasible to stay in the console business.
Nah, marketing was on point - that's the tragedy. Sega did everything RIGHT with the Dreamcast, but made too many mistakes beforehand (including bushing the Saturn to even get to the DC in the first place).thank you for the answer
wasn't the marketing for it also pretty bad if i remember right?

Had Sega stuck with it, they probably would've been doing the same level of business as the Gamecube if not slightly better due to online support, but they didnt have the finances to take the L like Nintendo did (remember the GC was getting washed so bad Nintendo had to actually pause console production for a few months)
two reasons. First the GD-rom (disc drive) was too easy to bootleg, and the rise of the internet made it so Sega didn’t account for how easily or widespread bootlegging would spread if this was to happen.it was so ahead of it's time, why was it a commercial failure? do you guys remember the reasons
Nah the EA thing goes back to the Sega Saturn. They were PISSED when Sega bumped up the release date from November to May on 2 weeks notice and stopped working with them - that's the whole reason Sega started the 2k franchise in the first place.two reasons. The PlayStation 2 was going to be more powerful which shouldn’t matter but they acted like it did
The final nail was EA. EA wouldn’t put games on Dreamcast because they are direct competitors to their business cash cow which is sports. NBA 2k/ NFL2k Vs madden and live. The industry claims that was the final blow. I call bulshyt but I concur the bootlegging was real
it makes no sense that a Dreamcast 2 wasn’t developed. The series X should be the Dreamcast 5
Not sure where you got that from but that’s totally false. The bump up dates I can’t speak on, but the relationship was untouched as you can see from exhibit ANah the EA thing goes back to the Sega Saturn. XBox wound up being the spiritual successor though and I think at one point Sega was going to become an exclusive Microsoft publisher.
