Why would you highly doubt it? Alexander Pushkin himself was visibly black.Pushkin's great-grandfather was African, but he actually lived in Europe (after being stolen by the Ottomans from Africa, and "gifted" to the Russian tsar).
I highly doubt a visibly African person, much less one from the colonies, would be accepted to study in universities in Europe at the time. Maybe I'm wrong, can you provide any such examples?
