Dude was super over and its not like rap & wiggers will ever go outta style. Cena could have just adapted with the times

I mean, imagine if after Stone Cold beat HBK @ WM 14 and then just started rocking suits and drinking wine instead of beers on some "Main Event Mafia" shyt

They did a drastic change and it immediately back fired and he never recovered since. They just deal with the backlash from the fans and say shyt like

"whether you love him or hate him, John Cena ushers a reaction from the WWE Universe"

Yeah, the tide had already begun to turn before he became a Marine. I think dropping the entire hip hop persona was a reaction to folk starting to boo him.

If I recall correctly, Cena had mentioned in an interview that he wanted to drop the rapper gimmick because he wanted to be more than just "The Guy Who Raps". Vince no doubt had a hand in his transformation though. If I had to guess Is say he wanted Cena to be a straight laced baby face in the vein of Hogan from the 80s.If you think about it, once Vince wiped out the competition, he went back to his old ways and didn't have to change and adapt to the way the business was changing with ECW and WCW

When he did that second video in the all White neighnorhood with a picket fence, it debuted to huge boos. Fans knew what was up...he kept winning too much so he wasnt gonna stay super over no matter what. Thought it was gonna be him vs Eddie at Summerslam at first and I would of bet my account fans would of turned on him in DC if it went down.

Vince probably figured the rapper gimmick would only take him so far in the long run. Though it's alright when he brings it back at times like he did last year on Raw for the promo on Rock.
