Why did Vince McMahon throw "rapper" John Cena in the bushes?

Cena as a rapper was a midcard heel gimmick. The whole basis for the gimmick is that he's a delusional white guy from nondescript suburbs who think he's gangster because he raps.

For that gimmick to transition to the clean babyface for kids he'd have to sanitize the rapping so much to where you might as well not do it.

I think rapper Cena had a short shelf life but I wish he could’ve kept that fake ass marine, tough guy gimmick going. PG, comedic, super Cena was corny as fukk.
Realistically he would look extra corny rapping in his 30s. Imagine him premiering raw with wigga raps today?
All facts lol

They should’ve passed the gimmick down to a black rassler IMO. Like have a battle rap type feud (not the Kurt Angle one lol) where the winner keeps the gimmick.

Nah his farewell tour should be him cutting diss tracks from movie sets on some Hollywood rock shyt. Never wrestle for weeks or even months until he's somehow guaranteed a title shot. Comes in as a heel. Wrestles the entire match as super Cena and goes over anyway. i might be booker of the year. :whew:

If I recall correctly, Cena had mentioned in an interview that he wanted to drop the rapper gimmick because he wanted to be more than just "The Guy Who Raps". Vince no doubt had a hand in his transformation though. If I had to guess Is say he wanted Cena to be a straight laced baby face in the vein of Hogan from the 80s.If you think about it, once Vince wiped out the competition, he went back to his old ways and didn't have to change and adapt to the way the business was changing with ECW and WCW
Yup, plus Iraq and Afghanistan brought back that 80s jingosm
