To add onto this, while DD is much more fun than Dark Souls, its not nearly as satisfying to play through. The bosses, while epic and cool in DD, dont have the presentation of a boss in dark souls. Progressing in DD isnt an accomplishment like it is in Dark Souls. The story is nonexistant, while Dark Souls is layered and earned. Every bit of Dark Souls is vastly more satisfying once you break through the wall. There is no wall in DD other than arbitrary spots that vastly outlevel you. You need to be a certain level, while in dark souls you need to acquire more skill. DD doesnt have the niche appeal of DS, nor the online component that adds even more replay value to the game.

/thread.

Also these fetch/escort quests. :scust:

I've no idea why the two are being compared, the battle systems are completely different while one is open world and the other linear. Op sounds emotional as fukk as well for some reason.

Anyway from what I've played the Souls games worlds are far more interesting, and the game itself is more challenging, has more unique enemies, is more satisfying and has a better atmosphere.
I think it's a good comparison. Both action rpgs, both new IPs, both japanese games that target the hardcore gaming audience. Anyone who's a fan of Dragon's Dogma probably also likes the Souls series. It doesn't work the other way around because Souls is much better, but there's definitely crossover there. And if I were a Capcom exec and looked at today's market, I'd target the Souls audience with a Dragon's Dogma 2. WRPG fanboys don't fukk with japanese action games so going after them is a waste of time.

As a HUGE souls fan and playing through DD again I have to agree with OP.

DD is just so much fun, the mechanics are more varied, and the pawn system is one of the coolest new mechanics in a recent RPG.

The agility of your character makes the game such a joy to play compared to other RPGs. In other RPGs you kinda feel disconnected from the world cause your character can't even lift his leg to step over knee high rocks/ledges. In DD you have full mobility.

And you can climb the back of a huge dragon and stab him in the neck :banderas:

DD>>>>>>>DS
yep, I like how they use platforming to hide items and such

These aren't comparable games for one. Dragon dogma is more equivalent to games like Skyrim. I liked the game but already mentioned it was a broken game to some extent and in had quite a few boring quests.

They are more similar to each other than Skyrim.

It didn't nail its world, atmosphere and aesthetic nearly as well as Dark Souls did. I'm playing through it right now and while the gameplay is great, the character models, dialogue and cutscenes are trash. The world itself is bland and has nowhere near as much character as Dark Souls. Also the game was a technical mess. 25fps and black bars.

The PC version is doing really well though and I think Dragon's Dogma 2 could be where the series takes off and becomes a big success.
Dark souls graphics, cutscenes, and technical prowess are nothing to write home about, in a lot of ways dragons dogma on consoles was much better in those aspects.

I'll give darks souls atmosphere, and more varied worlds, but that's it.

No.

Dragon's Dogma was Capcom and Japanese studios blatant attempt to create their own version of Skyrim as they saw that was the way the money was flowing. Its an open world Western style RPG to its core. All the way down to its bulletin board system to perform side quests

The Souls games/ Bloodborne are more akin to dungeon crawler games like Diablo for example.

I swear you dudes just like to argue for the sake of arguing and being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.

Gameplay is more similar, and they are both 3rd person.

There really aren't many similarities in Skyrim and DD.

You know you had the option to make Skyrim 3rd person too by simply scrolling your middle mouse button lol. So thats one supposed difference debunked.

Come on. The gameplay wasn't even that much similar either.

idk, but I'm having a lot of fun with Dragon's Dogma. the pawn system is really cool. maybe things like the lack of fast travel turned some people off
Its been a while since I played Dragon Dogma, but I thought you gained fast travel later in the game at some point. At least from city to city. Correct me if I'm wrong.
