Minimalism =/= nonexistent. Saying Dark Souls doesnt have a story is like saying Half life doesnt have a story. Just cuz the game doesnt sit you down for hours explaining it to you doesnt mean its not there. Everything about dark souls design dictates that you must impress it, it has no qualms about leaving the player in the dust, both in the gameplay and story. But youve already made up your mind so

No dark souls does not have a story.

It has lore.

The world has a history

But there is no explicit story. Any story out there is an interpretation of the limited info they put out.

That's fine and it's fun to try to figure it out, but it is not a story in the way other games have one.

I enjoy both as well. All those things you listed are criticisms of both games.

That's kinda my point but the game play is different, and thats what makes Dark Souls a better game IMO.

Your playing with semantics but by your definition the story of the game is the journey of the Chosen Undead and his quest to break the curse and rekindle the flame. Most characters you meet have their own stories as well. Saying it doesnt have a story is wrong.

DD doesnt even have good lore or characters to fall back on. It doesnt have interesting level design and world building either. It doesnt have thought provoking themes that tie the narrative to the gameplay either. DD's bland as fukk. And this is coming from a person who put over 100 hours into it and loves the game. dark souls is absorbing. DD only has amazing action.

naw, DD has a story - its straight up old school tho in true capcom nature

"Are you a bad enough dude to kill that dragon?" After answering, y or n, the plot will directly effect the game. DS? Not really. Just keep it moving til the next boss kicks your ass.

DS just talks about a bunch of bullshyt that has no real impact to your experience at all. Got a LOT in common with Destiny.... great lore, placeholder "immerse yourself" story.

Also, its MUCH easier in Dark Arisen. DD had a ton of work done on it from release to where it is now. Many of the harshest criticisms against it were mitigated through updates and whatnot.

wait who said Souls fans dont like DD?

i love both with Bloodborne being my favorite. i think most just dont want to adapt to the souls gameplay which is understandable. your not going to move around swiftly like other 3rd person adventure games. the immersive backdrops and environments are what make souls great imo. yeah theres little to no narrative but it pulls it off masterfully, there aren't too many games that can get away with it so you got a lot of people hating on that aspect. i beat demon and dark souls, didn't really care for ds2, knocked down dragons dogma and dark arisen, and i beat bloodborne 3 times. all great games and by the looks of it dark souls 3 looks like it will be the goat among them all

The console version more or less has no fast travel system. The PC version does. That alone is reason enough to play on PC.

Lastly, you ain't really seen shyt yet. Later in the game there's an area called Bitterblack Isle which is almost an entirely new game. It's almost like "Dark Souls".

I just started the post game and this game was/is better than I remember. Only issue I have is there is so much crazy lore, but they dont get really into it which is disappointing. Also from a character perspective the dragon is one of the goat bosses. He be ethering you and the rest of humanity humanity and I be sitting there like preach brotha

Def needed more of him in the game. Best character in the whole game
