i can agree with that, but at the same time, as I stated above, nothing is pop about Kurtis Blow and Whodini. Even at that time, they were legendary figures in hip hop. It was no different than Dru Down the same year using the Fat Boys "Can you feel it".

Also that year, you saw more artists, even Wutang, using singers for hooks. Ghostface's "all that I got is you" and a ton of 2pac songs had singers on hooks. So yes singing on hooks can be considered pop, but Kurtis blow and Whodini with Lauryn HIll, who was as hip hop as anyone, doesn't make it a pop record at all.

I agree 100% but when you compare it to illmatic it is a significant departure and was seen as an attempt to go pop.

Why didn't Nas work with Pete Rock after illmatic? Probably the same reason CL Smooth stopped working with him.
The PR and CL beef has to be one of the weirdest beefs in Hip Hop. Even in the last few weeks they gone back forth at each other.

he had 2 songs stored that were used on the Lost Tapes 2 album. But my theory is that Pete Rock was leading the pack with the "IWW is a pop album" nonsense due to not getting any credits on the album. Pete gave an interview around that time calling the songs Nas was doing "pop" and it was only because he got no placements on the album. Large Pro and Q Tip had no complaints, but Pete was on some bullshyt. The thing with Nas is if you give him a beat, he may not use it immediately. Large Pro said he gave Nas the beat for "ur da man" back in 98. It wasn't released until Stillmatic
nikka Esco was like I'm gonna black out to this, just not right now I'm not in the mood :wow:

Not weird at all.

Cl smooth has intangibles but lacks ill factor. Which pete rock preyed upon.
That pete rock used for his bullshyt wack producer on the mic routine.
To basically blow his production up. Then phased cl smooth out. with inferior even wacker non ill factor on the breaks wack rhymes.

They both only have themselves to blame.

One never ramped skill and the other used that factor to prey on.
All both suffer from a willingness.
to really get good on the mic frfr.

It is a component with all culturally wack and inferior skilled rappers. They fail to improve. So they take shortcuts. Which the green noob buying public falls for.

While i been telling you about.
the inferior skill crab bullshyt.
these non emcee sheltered ass rappers are on.

Ol hide in rhe house and try to pose writtens face ass nikkaz.

Dem nikkaz fooled you.

Plus all them other wack producers in the mic followed suit

I was waiting for this nonsense to appear again
well that may be his introduction to Nas. A lot of people get introduced to artists late and the album they first hear from them is their favorite. A LOT of Jay Z fans had an introduction to him with Hard Knock Life. The Teenage Dipset fans of the middle 2000s don't give a fukk about SDE Camron. For example, my favorite Temptations singer of all time is Ali Ollie Woodson. Now I was born in the late 70s so my introduction to the Temptations was when Dennis Edwards was the lead singer. Years later when I was 10, I learned about Ruffin, Kendricks, and Williams who may very well be better singers than Woodson, but my introduction to them was through Woodson and that' why he remained my favorite Temptations singer to this day.

Yet, ..
In this you still have to become aware and also prescient.
to the facts on skill and culture.
Of what predate you to fully engage in convo tho.

You always post as a good rap fan.

Yet this is hiphop and rap is just an economic construct misappropriated from hiphop.

Which is why i wonder ehy you asked me about iww.

When you know over the years.
what negativity iww is complicit and
Guilty of.
Over pronouncing to the point.
it brought down culturally the component of hiphop. Even being in rap.
till where we are now.
