See here's where I disagree: If the hometown as a whole isn't really behind the artist then I don't feel you need to support it. Wale doesn't get a lot of love around these parts, not to say he gets NO love but does he get a lot? Nah, and it's because a lot of cats down here don't feel him like that. I was in Queens when Mims was doing his thing and no one was really feeling him like that. So even if its successful, you still have to feel the music and feel the product. I'm not going to support someone just because their drivers license has the same state mine does. If I don't like the product then I don't like the product. I don't wish Wale any ill will nor did I or anyone I knew in NYC at the time wish Mims any ill will, but if I'm not feeling it, I'm not going to like it just because

yall dmv nikkas is some inside haters.shyt blows my mind..yall should be supportin tha man.that nikka be representin fa yall..and im way in florida and c it lol

im just curious.. what bubblin new artist from round your parts are you feelin right now?.:stopitslime:

No

ASAP had a classic solo and group mixtapes before he blew up. French also had few mixtapes, and feautures and was grinding for years before people started supporting him.

MIMS came out of nowhere. Nobody knew who the fukk he was, what what borough he from, whats his style, and who he rolled with. People knew his song, but probably didn't know his name.

If anything, he came way too late. Rappers have to put much more work out before they release their albums or even get deals.
didnt he say he came outta wash heights in his song? (never heard of it before he spat it).:manny:

the fukk is a Washington heights??

thats the whole point of the :stopitslime:

how the hell 2 retarded nikkas have the run they had without havin a story , and mims couldnt get past 1 single

But they did have a personality , Ying Yang is a bad example. Like they said in this song, MIMS didnt have a personality anybody coulda been MIMS, while Ying Yang shyt was pretty unique

He came and performed at my frat about a couple of months after the song peaked...He was a super dope guy, and put on a hell of a show (all other artists we brought in did a song or two, and just got high and started plottin on which sorority chicks to bang). That night still stands as one of the top three of my life.

As far as why NY didnt get behind him....this was still before the ubiquitous sound of the south completely enveloped hip hop....NY still had a "sound", and MIMS was seen as playin himself to appeal to the sensibilities of the south. A year or two later, and there was no such hostility to sounding like a southern rapper.

:snoop: I don't get it either. One of the reasons why you'll ever catch me shytting on him publicly. I do genuinely fukk with his shyt though. But Fat Trel just got signed to MMG and he'd be the perfect rapper to really have the city on his back.

His album was actually surprisingly decent....:whoa:...I walked in expecting complete basura. Plus generic crab in a bucket mentality. This was when practically no one from NY was eating and we didnt want this guy to be the one to do it.

NY back in 07 was waiting for another Hov, but Fif killed any form of eating from the old NY. Plus 07 was the worst in Hip Hop history, by far.

No hate but ATL does it all the time

ATL gets behind a song before it ever becomes a hit. It's a totally different scene. Songs here are broken in the club before they ever get played on the radio. By the time it hits the charts and the rest of the country is on it, it's already old news. Labels are like :lupe: and they sign the artist on the strength of that song and that's how we get:

Shop Boyz
D4L
Dem Franchize Boys
Ca$h Out
YC

and a host of others who disappeared after 1-3 songs or 1 album if they were fortunate.
