Why didn't the Lin and Harden project work out?

In theory, it SHOULD have worked fine for Houston. I mean, the Rockets were supposed to have what the Suns have now. Two guards who can play off each other and do work together.

With how efficient Lin is and how good Harden is there is not one damn reason it should have went down like it did.

Both of them are ball dominant guards and neither of them play a lot of defense. So it's pretty easy to see why they didnt work out together.
