aight traditionally there's been 8 different kinds of threads
1. personal
either autobiographical or biographical
these threads focus on one person in general (not just a single story)
2. current events
that's when someone copy/paste news articles
material you see on yahoo's front page
3. informative
not really useful for comedy or casual message boards
people have to be serious, actually care about the topic
4. storytelling
the focus is on the specific story and not the person
needs to be something people relate to- encourages people to share back
5. lists
this is pretty much played out in 2014- so over-saturated
but i used to like how it gave everyone a chance to talk
6. reactionary
topics that stir up a sharp response
around here that'd be like race, gender, politics
7. rants
has to relate with readers, usually needs to include some humor
can sometimes kickstart a good discussion (or not)
8. inside joke/satire/gimmick
can be long-time posters reminiscing
also lowkey troll topics
now there's a 9th one that is still pretty new to me..
but many people post from phones now.. so it will only get more popular
9. developing stories
speculating with others as events unfold in real time
like a sports game, school shooting, terrorist attack, etc.

honestly this list is probably useless and irrelevant
except if you are starting a thread, try to at least pick a lane for what you are doing
okay, time to apply some of these pads to my body
