^That pretty much sums it up. If you've ever traveled outside of the continental U.S., you'll notice that aside from other nationalities engaging in ingratiating tourist small talk, foreigners don't really do idle chatter much.

Southerners are the worst. I walk into the grocery store with the face just so the annoying cashiers won't talk to me. A few days ago, some fat out of shape black bytch called me out on it and asked why I always look so mean. I told her it was because I'm usually tired, but what I really wanted to say is that it's supposed to deter you fukking idiot cashiers from making irritating ass small talk with me

ANY Asian countries? Even you don't believe that...

And I'm specifically referring to idle chatter...talk about nothing. When I've traveled abroad, sure you see folks in the marketplace hawking, and talking excessively at times, but it's usually purpose-driven...not idle chatter.

I think socio-economics has something to with it in other countries, too.

My folk is in Japan right now...He tells me how Japanese folks, especially mid 30s, 40s and up don't play that idle chatter stuff.
