Pretty much this.

Basketball players actually know the game so they see beyond stats. The media and public at large are ignorant about the game so they use stats as a shortcut to understanding the game.

As a pure basketball player, Kobe is clearly better than LeBron. LeBron just knows how to stuff the stat sheet so he fools the ignorant public.
Nah..taking it too far. Bron is much smarter than that.

I think a more accurate assessment will come when Lebron is 35-36 and on his way out of the league with his final body of work calibrated.

Kobe went through a lot of ups and downs with players talkin shyt about him (Ray Allen) or lowkey/highkey vilifying him for the Shaq stuff (DWade) or trying to straight punk him (Barnes/Artest). But as he got older, he made amends with a lot of those players and when he won his 5th title.. well winning is everything. Any bball youth grew up seein Kobe threepeat, drop 81, and then win 2 more back-to-back.

Not necessarily. Most of kobe problems that affected how people viewed him were usually off court/personal ie Shaq, rape case etc. Lebron's criticism is usually always basketball related ie Going to Miami, having no heart etc and let's be real, Lebron has been in the league for awhile himself. Most of these players today with the exception of the late 2000s draft class probably grew up on Bron as well as kobe.

When Lebron fans say that Kobe games is "prettier" what they really mean is Kobe's footwork, ballhandling, post game and pull-up are more advanced than Lebron's.

Lebron is a football player playing basketball. Uses brute strength and speed to overwhelm opponents and a great passer but very little skill beyond that.
If they gave extra points for style points then Lebron would probably take an off season to work on that. A 2's a 2 and a 3's a 3 and Lebron is better at getting them than Kobe, in addition to being better at assists, rebounds, and basically everything else.

Kobe damn sure was the greatest basketball ballerina ever, though.

I think it's just the mindset of analysts looking at stats and using that to form opinions compared to players who use the eye test and then fall back on stats to justify it.

Stats can be manipulated. Lebron to me does things that keep his stats clean. For years he's played extra minutes in games that were clearly out of hand. Avoids taking end of shot clock shots since they're such a low percentage shots. He's said himself that his shooting percentage shapes his play. If he's already at a great percentage for the game he'll be more willing to take a three while if he's having a low shooting percentage game he's only going to take a shot that's more efficient. I think that has tied into the front running label as well. When his team is in the lead eye test wise he seems a lot looser and his jumper is much better which usually coincides him being in the midst of a good game.

I think Kobe was harder to shut down and more skilled over all. Lebron plays smarter. If Kobe faces a tough defense/defender he'd try to conquer the defense to prove a point. Lebron was smart enough to run pick and roll until he got a matchup more desirable to him.

I think Kobe appeals to players more because Lebron has shown you can get in to his head and if he can't totally figure out how to get his then he can become really passive and shut down. Kobe is going to try and keep attacking until he figures something out which appeals to player's competitive nature. I think the best current example is why so many players old and new absolutely love Russell Westbrook and side eye James Harden.

Nah, disregarding black excellence because someone decided to change the criteria just to criticize would qualify. Kinda like when you crush every measurable at your job but they promote poor performance Chase over you because of something off the script that they suddenly decide was more important.

Nice try, tho.

You Lebron fans are pathetic and always crying for acceptance.

I'm not changing my opinion. Lebron exploits the NBA system while Kobe mastered it. Get over it.

If this is true, why did players keep naming Bill Russell as the MVP over Wilt? One of the reasons that players got the MVP taken away from them was because they often played favorites rather than actually naming the best player on the court.

Why did players just name James fukking Harden as the MVP a couple years ago?

Always seeing this killer instinct bullshyt. Why is it that Lebron performs better in EVERY way than Kobe in elimination games? Why does Lebron have so many more legendary playoff games?

Kobe is great when the team he's playing is outmatched. He has some big playoff games in the midst of sweeps, or when Shaq and the other star were going at it and he was pretty much free to shoot at will against role players. But in the actual even series, when everything is on the line, he virtually never carries the team to victory. The best proof is how Laker fans constantly have to go to one game when he was 20 years old where he scored 28 points on 27 shots (against a team the Lakers had beaten without him just two games earlier) just to show a "clutch" playoff performance.

Lebron has 2007 Detroit Game 5, 2008 Boston Game 7, 2012 Indiana Game 4, 2012 Boston Game 6, 2013 San Antonio Game 7, 2016 Golden State Game 5, and 2016 Golden State Game 6. And that's just scratching the surface. I don't know if Lebron's Game 7 last year even would make his top-ten best elimination games, and it's still better than the best one that Kobe ever had.
u should go check Kobe's playoff resume bc u off base

Stephen Jackson is :flabbynsick: He ever see LeBron play? :skip:

It's hard to understand LeBron's overall impact, only his teammates can fully appreciate. When you miss your rotation but LeBron covers up by jumping the passing lane and your mistake turns into a highlight dunk for your team. Shane Battier said when he got to Miami he kept calling his ex-teammates to tell them how much of a beast LeBron was. He makes his guys better by covering up A LOT of shyt. That's why his teams suck when he's not on the floor.

The Truth
Basically players see what we all see but some don't want to admit.

Lebron is a stat stuffer. He is a great player but a lot of his game is frontrunning. Playing well when he is out in front. People who actually criticize him publicly been saying that for years.

People think Kobe was a ball hog but when it was all said and done he set assist records, never switched teams to go ring hunting, always had some crazy shyt happening in the game, was extremely skilled, and competed to the point where he almost 3-peated twice. He was knocking on MJ's door for awhile until he got hurt.

And Kobe took a lot of criticism but didn't give a fukk or didn't give a fukk about the media. Calling him a bytch wouldn't have had him crying to the media, it wouldve pissed him off and he would've let his game do most of the talking

It was that strong willpower than he had that players saw up close and respected... Just like MJ

And players grew up on him and that. Analysts just want to dikkride what they think is hot to get ratings and look at stats.
