Why do baseball fans like David Ortiz?

Sure, he had a few amazing clutch hits, but let's look at the bigger picture:

-he's fat and slow
-he cheated and lied about it but had the nerve to cast aspersions on much superior Dominican baseball players (a la A-God)
-he takes way too long between pitches to adjust his gloves and spit in them and so forth

He literally represents all the worst aspects of baseball as one player.

And this is the kind of dude yall celebrate while people are making valid points about why your sport is, at best, stagnating in growth and at worst eroding away.

But if we are gonna trash ARod and Canseco and Bonds and Sosa for using PEDs, then trash Ortiz and Pettitte and Fernando Vina and others too.

The one issue I have when people bring up PEDs to shyt on guys is that it's phony. Nobody loved Bonds or ARod and then suddenly hated them once they juiced. They've always hated them. Now they just use PEDs as an excuse to hate them more.

Because guaranteed if it came out tomorrow that Jeter used PEDs, every sports reporter in the country would figure out a way to justify it because they like him.

Barry Bonds is a piece of shyt and always was one. Long, long before he ever took PEDs.

And even as a complete douchebag in 1993, he was still the best player in the game.

I have no issues disliking an athlete while acknowledging their greatness.
But most "haters" act like the players they hate suck. It's delusional.

He's likeable. Baseball history is littered with players whose status was elevated because they played "the game". The whole HOF voting system, in baseball more than any other sport, is nerds exacting revenge for never being shown a seat at the cool table.
