Barry Bonds is a piece of shyt and always was one. Long, long before he ever took PEDs.

And even as a complete douchebag in 1993, he was still the best player in the game.

I have no issues disliking an athlete while acknowledging their greatness.
But most "haters" act like the players they hate suck. It's delusional.
Again, that's life. It's what they do.

Regardless of whether you think Ortiz or Bonds did it or not, they're in that suspicion category, where there's no real tangible proof besides what you want to believe. Guys like A-Rod and Manny are a special kind of stupid. If you're dumb enough to risk and fail a test after they made the tests harder and the punishment more severe, then it becomes a debate as to whether you should ride for stupidity. That's what many of the accused were able to avoid.

He's likeable. Baseball history is littered with players whose status was elevated because they played "the game". The whole HOF voting system, in baseball more than any other sport, is nerds exacting revenge for never being shown a seat at the cool table.

How do u selectively punish steroid cheats in an era where u can't conclusively prove who was using?
Baseball is too littered with crusty old white men who like to pack morality together with their vote.

And the HOF vote is the ultimate "fukk you" to a player who maybe used PEDs to overshadow some crusty hero of theirs in the 1960s.

And tradition sometimes casts a black eye on the game. Just because Babe Ruth didn't get 100% of the vote for the HOF doesn't mean you don't vote for Rickey Henderson.

That "stupidity" argument is corny.
It's just rewarding juicers for not getting caught.

No it ain't. A-Rod admitted to his shyt in Texas and I'd be willing to let that go because that's baseball's fault. If you're still trying to do that shyt after they've tried to fix their rules, you just don't care and whatever happens to you is deserved.

A-Rod getting busted for the same thing knowing what the consequences were is as corny as anything

1. A lot of those voters are getting phased out each year.

2. They pack morality in their voters because... technically they can. It's in the rules. Same with every other sport. Morality is actually a big part of the criteria.

Yeah but your problem then isn't with PEDs. It's with (your view of) stupidity.

And let's be honest here, if stupidity is a reason to keep a guy out of the hall, we might as well kick a lot of guys out.

Didn't Bonds admit to it
Saying he didn't know it was a steroid he was using

Bonds definitely knew what he was doing.
It's just that his trainer refused to corroborate the prosecutions defense. So Bonds could claim whatever he wanted.

I always thought it was nothing short of amazing that the media literally NEVER talks about his PED suspicions. Cacs love Big Papi
The Mitchell Report didn't name a single Boston Red Sox player (that I can remember).

It was highly suspicious given Mitchell's connections.

Some questioned whether Mitchell, being a director of the Boston Red Sox, created a conflict of interest, especially because no prime Red Sox players were named in the report,[21] despite the fact that Red Sox stars David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez were later alleged to have used performance-enhancing substances during the 2003 season, as reported by the New York Times on July 30, 2009.[23] Likewise, the report was commissioned by Selig, and no members of the Milwaukee Brewers, whom Selig once owned, appeared in the report.
