Most people think power just = home runs.

fixed. When a teams fans say "we need more power in the lineup",
they ain't talkin' about OPS or Slugging Percentage.

How many players ops .933 over 18 years?
How many players slug over .500 for 18 years?

Couldn't tell you, because those don't matter that much.

You know what David Ortiz's career OPS is?

Nope. Nobody does.

I know how many homers he's hit, though - 634.

Wait - did you say The Green Monster was a benefit??

Lower than Edgar's.

By almost any measure except homers, Edgar was a better hitter.
And he didn't have the benefit of bouncing shyt off the green monster
.
Edgar had the Kingdome.

It's not an opinion that bonds lied about juicing.
HE LIED ABOUT IT.

His trainer Greg Anderson refused to testify and was in contempt for court forever because he wouldn't cross Bonds.

But anyone who read those docs knew he lied.

Actually, it's all 'alleged' innocent until proven guilty breh :jawalrus:

:salute: to Greg Anderson, GOAT trainer sat in the cell for months without opening his mouth once :blessed:

Barry Bonds is a piece of shyt and always was one. Long, long before he ever took PEDs.

And even as a complete douchebag in 1993, he was still the best player in the game.

I have no issues disliking an athlete while acknowledging their greatness.
But most "haters" act like the players they hate suck. It's delusional
.

Infinite dappage

One of the weirdest phenomenons I have noticed....its why I dont take a lot of sports analysis seriously because it isnt remotely rational..

It may be better in baseball discussions and it certainly is way better than NBA discussions

Ortiz was part of the feel good story of the Red Sox...so his indiscretions were overlooked

In the future steroids and other PEDs will likely be accepted.

Might take 100 years but eventually they'll figure out how to make it safer and beneficial to speed up recovery and regenerate muscles/tissue/whatever.

It'll start with helping the elderly and it'll trickle on down.

You can never put the genie back in the bottle.
It is definitely strange how our country loves to be medicated yet demonizes marijuana and PEDs. Most of that bullshyt people are legally taking are far worse.

Seems like a real 'regular' dude.

He has no filter.

He has a great personality that people can relate to.

Aside from his accomplishments as a baseball player/

They will be forced to accept it one day.
All these white suburbanites transitioning from opiate pills to heroin have suddenly opened their eyes to these legal poisons.

Our government is honestly a corporation. It manufactures these things as opposed to them growing in the ground. That's why things like deoxsyn (which has methamphetamine in it) and fentanyl (which is basically heroin) are legal instead. Also because it helps feed the for profit prison industry, and then those legal drugs turn people into addicts who commit crimes to get their fix and end up in jail (and then basically have no rights once they get out and are disqualified from basically any decent job unless they're a celebrity, thus forcing them to turn back to crime since it becomes that or work minimum wage in food service for 60 hours a week to pay the bills). Same reason there isn't a public cure for cancer or HIV or AIDS.

I think if Whey protein powder and creatine were available in the 1930s they would have considered that "PEDs" ... which is silly.

We also have to understand that "PEDs" are a vague thing today.

If you take the wrong energy drink you could get banned and the only thing the public hears when someone says PEDs = steroids.

Let me tell you something just as 1 example: ephedra may be dangerous if abused. But it never helped anyone hit a curveball.

I mean look at this list of PEDs:

List of banned substances in baseball - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Who the fukk is taking LSD to win baseball games? Except Dock Ellis (RIP)
I think comparing Whey Protein and Creatine to an Anabolic steroid is a slippery slope, breh.

I've been seeing this sentiment increasingly in the past few months and it puzzles me. I grew up understanding that steroids were for bytch nikkas who weren't good enough to get by on their own merit so they needed enhancement in order to match up to their competition.

Fast forward to 2016 and I'm seeing advocacy of the shyt and it boggles my mind.

Also...LSD is illegal period so it only makes sense that it would be illegal in baseball.

Cigarettes and Alcohol are legal...therefore baseball players may abuse them to their hearts content

Steroids allow you to train harder.
And it allows you to recover faster.

But here's the thing.
By and large, in a sport like baseball...strength is not that big of a deal. I know that sounds crazy but understand that baseball is largely a skill sport. You don't need to be 230 pounds to hit home runs. You don't need 18 inch arms to throw 95 mph. So very, very few players were bums but actually became stars because of the juice.

Now the recovery? That is a much larger deal. Because you're talking about a sport where position players get maybe 4 days off in a month. And often less. It's 162 games in roughly 180 days. That's brutal whether people realize it or not. So being able to bounce back and play at a high level...thru the nagging injuries is a major leg up. It's also impactful for pitching recovery, but that's a little trickier for casual fans to understand because they think having 4 days off between starts negates any of the rigors of pitching.
