I remember my sister came home from this church youth camp my mom sent her to, all upset and crying, telling me the other kids at the camp told her she could only be 'chocolate' ice-cream in some silly game they were doing and assigning each other ice-cream flavors. I told her, 'so what' and she said "I didn't care at first, but they kept saying it and laughing like it was bad" and I love my little sis so that actually hurt. I was kinda annoyed that little kids were doing this too, they like 4th grade back then, cause I knew they were getting it from home, they were too young to really even be on that colorist thing and understanding it. So I had basically had to just reverse psychology on her and be like "ok, but do you think being the chocolate one is bad? No right? Exactly, besides, everyone loves chocolate ice-cream..." and I just remember her giving me a big hug and stopping with the tears. You gotta hype your kids up and promote self-esteem in them.
Yeah, kids get bullied and teased and it's normal but not everyone reacts the same so parents, IMO have to do more to protect the mental well-being of their kids.
