NYC is just like that...its not just the nikkas...
virtually EVERYONE from NYC feels that way about the rest of the country. Comes with growing up thinking your town is the center of the universe (and according to most of our pop culture, it is).
There's also the whole northern thing too. Cats in Chicago/Detroit and other rust belt cities call down south cats bammas too.

Outside of Florida most of my exposure to the south was rural North Carolina. Back then when my parents asked me if I wanted to move down there it had me like 
the thought of sitting in some house from the slavery era with no A/C in hot, humid weather with some country bumpkin field as your backyard made me sick
But Raleigh and Charlotte OTOH, is more my speed
Before I did research on those two cities and visited Raleigh I thought the entire state of NC was just some bumbfukk rural country wasteland stuck in the 1960s 
I just don't like rural NC but the cities in NC are cool though
