He won an Oscar.

But honestly, I was never aware of any sort of massive unpopularity or outright hatred for the guy. He's done him and came from a sketch comedy show to work himself up to a Hollywood B-Lister. I've been following his career since the Jamie Foxx show (and In Living Color)...he's talented. Did acting and music to a tee and can do both with the best of his ability.

But let's go back to Jamie winning an Oscar. If you look at other black actors who've won awards, him winning for Ray is actually a big F-U to the academy. He played Ray Charles and was able to be awarded for a relatively non-stereotypical or demeaning role that actually had to do with a Black artist with Black American history as the context (considering Ray Charles' life had faults, it's only art trying to imitate life).

I'm really convinced White America sadly would feel some type of way if the Academy awarded a Black director Best Picture and Best Director. This is coming though I feel...really I feel the Academy is just going to give a black director both those awards just to deflect criticisms from people about the AAs being a racist institution and to try to "modernize" themselves.

Like just the other day I was talking with some guys about the Amazing Spiderman trailer. They quickly dismissed that shyt said they aint watching it because Jamie Foxx is in it.
