The new world (America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) were founded by Europeans and with the exception of the black population in the states, remained european nations until the 1960's. There is a lot of argument over "posterity" but i think one of the interesting thing about the new world is the concept of "being American" or "being Canadian", meaning we all assimilate to become "Americans" rather than blacks, asians, whites, etc.. I was referring mostly to European countries.
