Weed was never my thing so I'm ignorant. But I was under the assumption they stopped criminalizing weed smokers because of legalization laws.
Also, I am pretty sure carrying marijuana in NYC is now a disorderly conduct as opposed to anything with real consequences. Last time I went to court, nobody had repercussions for anything involving weed, and everyone in there had something with marijuana going on.
What's the general law right now across the country?
It's in transition among states. The federal laws and scheduling system has not changed, but there is less federal intrusion into states that choose or have referendums to legalize or have medicinal MJ. It's no mans land right now. 5 more states are going to vote for legalization or medicinal MJ on November 8. However, if you look at the map, all the states that have legalized or will likely legalize are towards the Northeast and Western U.S.
Like this fuucked up election, none of the debates asked either candidate about their opinions on this. However, as much as I cringe at Hillary winning, I cringe too at Donald bloviating about going HAM on MJ smokers which is insanity at this point. The Pew Research has a poll that says 60% of Americans are ok with legalization, and they-ve been polling for 20 years..Support for marijuana legalization continues to rise
