I think in some cases it has something to do with sample clearances or stuff like that...I remember that the OG version of the Ghost Dog soundrtrack was a Japan export back in the day

Nope.

In the days when CDs were the main and only source of music, they used to get released in other parts of the world at different times, similar to DVD region codes or ones for video games.

Japan (a major market) used to get the stuff weeks and sometimes months later, so adding bonus tracks was an incentive to give people to still buy the albums even after the initial release.

Not sure how much sense that makes, here in Europe yes the CD would be available later than in the US, but it's not you add access to the US cd anyway, so extra track or not we were buying it. Hell I didn't even realize that we had extra tracks in Europe until some threads started popping up on :hamster: or here about it.

I know that shyt pisses me off. So do deluxe editions of albums. You know how annoying it is to organize and tag your music when it there's an extra song on the deluxe edition that has the same disc and track number as another song on the cd.

fukking store specific special editions too.

You asked for the explanation, did you not?

The releases were later.

People knew the CDs were out, but had no incentive to miss out on just getting the pirated copy from earlier releases if there wasn't some bonus tracks on their special regional release.

Europe and Japan always had remixes and unreleased cuts on Albums and Singles that weren't released in the states commercially. As I said in the NaS "Blaze a 50" story thread. I got the international single of "Hate me Now" visiting fam overseas that had it on it back in 99', 3 years before it was released commercially on "The Lost Tapes". Lance "Un" rivera got stabbed cause he leaked the International version of "Vol 3" which had a different track listing than the states. I got that version also and I had "Anything" and 3 "Hova Song" Intros on there as well as the original "Is that your B!tch" with 3 Jay Verses a Twista Verse and no Bleek.

I bought LL Cool J b.a.d. on cassette back in like 87 in England when I was on a trip visiting family. I was real young. I think it had extra tracks on it.

I brought it back, the case and everything was way nicer than the US version. My whole case was clear with an ill insert and my cousins shyt was just some generic looking shyt in comparison. Euro/foreign edition shyt probably comes with glitter and birds on the inside now.

I don't know why, but it drives me crazy. I've been trying to find the UK Version of Vol. 3 by Jay-Z, and it's impossible.
