Why do most East Coast beats sound like garbage when they can't sample records or bite from other regions?

Some (not all) had interpolations. But 1000% your point still remains. South still used heavy samples til the Mannie Fresh era took off

MFers in here acting like sampling only refers to east coast boom bap type sound.
Irrelevant information :mjlol:

It don't matter that other regions sampled. The point is they still sound good when they don't

East coast for the most part is cheesy and swagless without sampling

nikkas bringing up mantronix and the roots knowing damn well the majority don't sound like that :mjlol:

Exactly the shyt I'm talking about :dead:

East Coast is built on sampling, and that's how it should be. Once the region moved away from samples into trash-ass 'digital beats,' their sound got progressively worse. Swizz has like 1 dope beat for every 24 hot garbage beats...dude is just awful

South sounds dope with digital beats. The east does not.

Regionalism needs to continue its gradual return to hip hop.
The east doesn't need samples it needs MUSICIANSHIP, you cant sample every time. That eats into your royalties (look at Diddy and Bad Boy). You're better off creating your own loops THEN sampling that

The South samples too

Alot more than people think

Yep A LOT! I think the 808s throw people off and it isn’t as noticeable to a lot of listeners. But 3-6 sampled a lot. Metro samples a lot.

40 years? What about all those neptunes songs from 98-2002ish. Super Thug, I Just Wanna Love U, etc.

Ruff Ryders Anthem?

:lolbron:That’s still 27 years ago.

Think about it: right now you’d be hard pressed to name current East Coast producers who make hit beats without samples. You can do that for the South, Midwest & even West Coast.

Regionalism needs to continue its gradual return to hip hop.

Far better that everybody involved broadens their skill sets to be able to make a better product across the board. Artists and producers alike. Too many talented people afraid to experiment and learn new things because they're stuck on the idea of a "sound" they feel they need to adhere to...that ain't growth.

I still want that Mos Def/Mannie Fresh collab :snoop:

The South has the blues influence to draw from and jazz AND funk was huge on the West Coast. So we can mix that with the hip-hop sound.

NYC just had the bebop and hard jazz sound so unless you got skilled musicians like the Roots you don't have as much to draw from. That's why you had NY rappers like Busta putting Ozzy on their songs and making rock inspired hip-hop. There's house music too but house music is still lowkey associated with LGBT people. Maybe techno but that's more Detroit than NYC.

Ironically the New Orleans bounce sound was originated by a NY group.

This song was where Mannie Fresh and a few others got the inspiration to make bounce
