Why fight it 
Old folks have seen all manner of death. I imagine they are far past the point of being afraid of it, seeing as how much closer they are to it.

I think past a certain age where you've lost quite a few friends and family it's easier to accept that grim is gonna ring that door bell soon enough. Younger people don't really think this way as most operate under the minset that their whole lives is still ahead of them barring any unforeseen tragedy... I mean when you're 25-35 you can say shyt like.. "I wanna do/be/achieve x by the time I'm 40/45" ..but when you're 55+ it's different.. you're now at an age where you're more concerned about staying healthy over the course of the next 20 years so you can watch your grand kids grow up. If you're lucky enough you may get to stick around long enough to see your great grand kids graduate high school..
Thing is, you're gonna be old a lot longer than you're gonna be young..
