Time is a measure of distance in space. Earth is not standing still. It’s literally flying through space at 66,616 mph.

Think of space as water (it’s not water, but for this example imagine it is) when a large object moves through space, the object has an effect on how space is shaped, it moves the space around it. Gravity is the slope of the “wake” left behind as the object travels forward.

If that’s us traveling through space, spiraling around the sun… how can time not be real?

:jbhmm:

If Earth is flying through space at 66,000 mph, then what we call time is really just how far we’ve moved through space while things change.
So like in your example, think of space like water as you mentioned, when a giant object (like Earth) moves through it, it creates a wake behind it.
Think of gravity as the shape of that wake, like a bending of space caused by movement and mass.

When Earth rotates, we say 'a day passed'. But really, Earth just turned once.
Nothing in nature actually creates time.

You don’t need time as a real thing.
You only need motion, distance, and change, and those exist without inventing an invisible dimension called time.

So yeah, in your example earth is plowing through space, creating wakes and curves, and everything follows those curves.
But that still doesn’t mean time exists. It just means we’re moving.

Time is a measurement of distance through space. We don’t measure that distance in miles and say we traveled 1,598,784 miles today. We simplify it and break it into an easier measurement… hours.

Not only is time real, but it is supported by one of the most important laws of physics, Entropy.

Nope.
Alot of ppl say entropy proves time exists, but that’s misunderstanding what entropy actually means or measures rather.

Entropy simply describes how messy or spread out energy becomes as things change. That’s it!
Entropy shows the direction of change, not the existence of time.

Like ice melting or hot water cooling down is not proof of time but direction of change.
These things require proceses for it to occur, not time.
It's just a sequence of states.
Entropy only tracks what direction change happens in, not by a magical thing called time. Entropy tracks change in a prefered direction.

I haven’t. Your point makes no sense.

1 hour = 66,616 miles through space or 1/24 the rotation of the planet.

Time is distance.

Wait are you disagreeing with me or agreeing?
Either that or your proving my point without realizing it.
If time is just distance, then time doesn’t exist, only distance does, ya i'm been saying that.

You are saying the earth moves a certain amount of miles and we call that movement one hour or something.
But that's exactly my point.

We invented time or the word 'hour' to label the movement.
The movement is real, the hour is not.
If time = distance, then time is not a fundamental thing, it’s just a way humans describe movement, or change.

There’s 80-90 year old people living :stopitslime:

If time didn’t exist they’d still be young , we all would. 40-50 years from now most people on the coli will be dead

so the transition from when you were a child to adult was what :patrice:

Old people does not prove time exists.
Itonly prove things change.

If you plant a seed, it becomes a tree.
If you heat ice, it becomes water.

None of that requires 'time' as a real physical thing, it only requires processes happening.

As I said before, cells change, organs change in structure and function, entropy increases, DNA changes or gets damanged.

These are all biological changes, it's not proof of time doing something to you.

Going from a kid to an old person is just your body moving from different states.
You don't age because time exists, but because your body changed, humans measure that in years but that's not WHY we change.

You're doing a better job of explaining time than you think. Change is time. Motion is time. Growth is time. Nothing on this planet stays still. If something grows and/or changes in any way its due to the forward motion of time.

You’re not proving time exists with that argument, you just renaming change and pretending that makes time a physical thing.
Change causes the motion, time is jsut how we describe that motion

If you took away time, people would still age, flowers would still bloom, because these processes run on physics not time.

Sort of contradicting yourself or arguing semantics.

You admit that Entropy exists, and that it proves the direction of change (i.e. time). Isn't that time as we colloquially understand it?

But if you want to get into the more technical aspects- time is also fundamental to things like causality and spacetime.

You don’t need “time” to exist as a thing in order for events to happen.
All you need is change and sequence.
Saying you can’t exist without time is like saying you can’t walk without “inches”but inches aren’t real, they’re just how we measure distance.

So “time” is just how we label the order of events we experience.

The fact that I typed a message and you’re reading it now doesn’t prove time exists it only proves one event happened before another. That’s sequence, not time my dude.

The universe doesn’t care about seconds or hours nawm it just moves from state A to state B.

No, nothing in this exchange is about semantics.
Inches is a label, distance is a thing.
Time is a label, change is a thing.

This is not about semantics because you are confusing the label with the thing(time).
Semantics is when two people argue over words, that's not what is happening here.

Entropy = direction of change
Causality = order of events
Spacetime = map we draw to describe those events
None of those = a literal “thing” called time

Change is real, sequence is real, but “time' is just the word we use to describe it, not an actual thing the universe contains.
