Why do people dismiss those with certain degrees?

What university do you go to?

And no shyt it matters.... :snoop:

I can already guess you go to UNC or UF

University of Texas.

I knew it mattered for majors that would be competitive but not so much that any degree would be worth more. Seems ludicrous that someone could go to a top university major in some irrelevant studies and be seen as more qualified for a job than someone at a regular college with the actual degree.

To be fair, some schools design five year engineering programs, for whatever reason(s). :manny:

Probably due to the high dropout rates.
I mean lets be honest, there's no comparison in difficulty. Not all degrees are created equal.

I took summer classes every year just to lighten my load during the fall and spring semesters

This is why you have to define success by your own terms in life.
Someone will always make more money than you.
You also have to ask yourself what truly makes you happy, what are you trying to accomplish and why.
I'm working on my MBA and I don't bother to compare another person's degree to mine.
Another person's definition of success does not alter mine in the slightest, and the inverse of that should apply as well.

most people stupidly choose majors without having a plan to be successful. then they think that a masters will help them and that's how they end up fukked by debt

if you go to an ivy league or big school, get a good internship lined up, and know people in the industry, even a 18th century literature major can get a job.

but thats not most people

Truth be told, or they are doing receptionist work if they don't have their Master's.

Just because they can, people need others they can look down upon

There's nothing wrong with liberal arts degrees, and seeing as a lot of the people here with technical degrees lack common sense and critical thinking skills, some people might be better off getting one

Ppl always look down on liberal arts because they say "it doesn't prepare them for life after college, there's no jobs, not specialized".

i know a person who actually graduated with a liberal arts degree with 3 minors..after 6 years in undergrad,,she was a receptionist

I have an Associates in Network Security.
I'm currently in school for my Master's of Business Administration.
My job is paying 100% of my tuition and only require me to stay one year after graduation.

I agree, if they're not in social work or working to become a therapist, shyt's a wash on pay.

Master's is almost mandatory (if not extremely recommended) otherwise

Most people I know that got liberal arts degrees barely make 40K/yr. I graduated with a Computer Science degree and was making 150K/yr. They see pics of me traveling all over the world on facebook and always ask me if they can roll with me :childplease:
