What do you mean?
meaning most of the stuff we do comes down to satisfying our ego. we could say what they're doing is stupid but if you do something sligjhtly less stupid with your money and the ultimate goal when you break it down to the root is satisfying the ego...is it really that much better?

if people want to do dumb shyt with their money (and i'm included in this too) then what can we do about it? why even ask why? either they can afford it or they can't either way :manny: sometimes people don't know any better. sometimes people don't even want to know any better...

If I have a kid, baby will have an assortment of onesies and tshirts until that little nikka can walk. Then you can have some pants and shoes. Until then, its just diapers and tops. :camby:

The baby doesn't even know its' fly.
Children are not fashion accessories, they are human.
Babies and kids like to play. Expensive clothes aren't meant for that.
I really don't see the harm. When you love something/someone you like to fawn over it/them. As long as it doesn't go beyond the parents means what it the big deal.

What do you mean by ego?
i don't know if ego is the exact right term but what i mean by ego is your vanity. the identity that we build up for ourselves and that we then have to spend so much energy in maintaining. the greatness we want others to perceive in us (however we define it).

You're misunderstanding the question, what is your definition of "afford" in the context of being able to "afford" something?
They have / make enough money so that buying them isn't a big deal.

Where I'm from, it does most of the time.
My best friend in elementary school, my next door neighbor (free him)...Son was in a situation like that.
Dude's mom is a lesbian barber who got into a gang of hood shyt, lived with her mom.
He always had the freshest gear, freshest haircuts (of course), newest toys...
Son was a slow reader, ended up getting into the streets, started bloodin, now he's locked up for life because the shooter in a lick he hit put the whole blame on him. Did him being spoiled in one way (and not the other) have an effect on his life? I think so.
Here's what happens (and it kinda happened to me):
When you're a little kid, fly gear is a little cheaper, and it's oh so cute. As you grow, things get more expensive, and the parents have to work harder to get them. Some stop.
If you've had fly gear the whole time, and you're used to it...you want to maintain that.
Mama ain't buying it anymore, so where you gonna get the money?
A Kroger's job isn't going to cut it.
When people dress their kids like that, they're setting a standard. Nobody wants to downgrade.

Brolic... Alcoholics
I spend enough money on diapers and formula. She'll wear the nicest things money can buy.... at Target.

I'm guilty of it, my son was wearing Gucci onesies and he has all of the Jordan's and a ton on Ralph Lauren shyt that he can even wear. I spent thousands on things he wore for maybe a month or two. This was my first child so I went kinda overboard but I'm done doing that shyt.

I did the same thing with my oldest daughter. Everything was Polo and Nike and Jordan. Then I realized I was buying the shyt nearly every three weeks. By the time my son came around I chilled out that shyt. He's 4 yrs old now and I'm finally starting to buy the expensive stuff for him. I'll do the same thing with my baby girl too.

Not everyone is struggling, poor or even middle class. This is my last post in this thread but don't act like everyone is down and out and has to watch every dime. I hope you know that this is how third world folks look at what people in developed nations are doing by the way - right now you are just living your life and some downtrodden person who hasn't eaten in days is probably thinking that you are spoiled rotten by just living in the country that you live in right now.

Because young children are status symbols to the middle/upper middle class. If the baby has the freshest gear and eats the most expensive healthy food then they can show money is no object.

7mile to SE & Uptown!
A lot of people think they can afford things until later, then they complain.
I volunteered at a soup kitchen a decade ago...saw a chick in there w/ a baby...Both of 'em had chains on, matching jordan sweat suits, and some 9's (they were real)...eating among the homeless. Shorty seemed like she was a dopeboy's chick. I guess d-boy got locked up.
Shorty might have been in a shelter for numerous reasons. I seen it before. But on the topic, I was getting my hair cut last weekend and this very topic came up. I don't see a problem with it if you can afford it BUT as a parent I learned my lesson on this with my first child. I was SO excited to be a dad that I was buying high priced EVERYTHING until I realized they outgrow that shyt QUICKLY :to: then you find yourself trying to sale it and nobody wants to pay much for it. I ended up just giving away so much shyt that it woke me up :mjcry: and the worst thing is that a lot of that high name brand shyt isn't even good quality :martin:
